All four corners of the intersection of I-55 and Hwy. 310 at Como now has manufactured home dealerships with the approval of a request by Regional Enterprises to begin operations there immediately.

The Panola County Land Development Commission allowed a special exception request by Neil Godfrey to use the 14 acres on the southeast corner of the intersection for the sale of new manufactured homes. The business will also offer a limited number of pre-owned sales also.

“It looks like Como is becoming the manufactured housing capital of Mississippi,” said Danny Jones, commission president after the unanimous vote last week.

The property is remembered by some Panola Countians as the location of a Stuckey’s franchise many years ago. The property still has the original Stuckey’s building with a design that is distinct and recognizable.

In recent years the property has been used by Crenshaw Auction Company. The property sold for a reported $1.7 million dollars, a considerable investment by the new owners.

Land development board members were welcoming of the new business, which will employ about five people plus other contract laborers as needed. They were assured by the applicant that the property will be kept neat and have only new units visible to passing interstate traffic.

In other action, the commission approved the application of Bill Tutor for the reclassification of property on Fox Run Dr. from agricultural to residential. Tutor told board members he wants to develop a housing subdivision on the 14 acres he owns at the location.

He gave commissioners drawings of the plans for single family homes he hopes to build and sell on the property. The board approved the change in classification and will be presented additional plans for approval once the subdivision is started.
