MARKS– Elois Russell Bailey, 77, died Saturday, August 30, 2008, at Quitman County Hospital.

Services were Tuesday at Kimbro Funeral Home. Rev. John Shackleford officiated. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Bailey, born April 15, 1931, was a Baptist and a homemaker.

Survivors include: one daughter, Janice Bailey Monsimer of Las Cruces, New Mexico; one son, Silas Bailey of Crowder and one granddaughter.

HORN LAKE– Imogene Milam Bradley, 79, died Monday, September 1, 2008, at her residence.

Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Robert Woodard officiated. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Bradley, born May 15, 1929, to the late Carlton Milam and Georgia Watson Milam, in Quitman, was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Senatobia and a retired registered nurse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Eugene Bradley and her daughter, Mary Lois Bradley Mask.

Survivors include: one daughter, Gayla Bradley O’Neal of Parker, Colo.; two sons, Ernest Eugene Bradley Jr. of Southaven and Donald Ray Bradley of Nesbit; one sister, Ann Bradley Penney of Olive Branch; two brothers, George Milam of Independence and Mike Milam of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
 

SLEDGE– Billy Overall, 67, died Saturday, August 30, 2008, at his residence.

Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sledge Baptist Church. Rev. Jess Chadwick will officiate. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.

Overall, born to the late Vesture “Dick” and Marie Jones Overall, was a member of Sledge Baptist Church and a retired Quitman County road foreman.

Survivors include: his wife, Emma Jean Overall of Sledge; one son, Ricky Overall of Sledge; two daughters, Connie Mayo of Sledge and Denice Stepp of Strayhorn; one brother, Johnny Overall of Southaven; four sisters, June Goodwin of Crenshaw, Shirly Lantrip of Sardis, Linda Carpenter of Nesbit and Joyce Carlisle of Strayhorn and 7 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Sledge Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.

OXFORD– Emily Clara Holloway Peacock, 85, died Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. Peacock was born in Courtland.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Andrews United Methodist Church. Rev. Richard Robbins and Rev. John Kramer will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville. Visitation will be noon until service time at the church. Waller Funeral Home of Oxford has charge.

Peacock was a retired clerk with the United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency in Indianola and Oxford. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Oxford. She attended Northwest Mississippi Junior College and formerly served as a secretary at a Prisoner of War Camp in Como during WWII and worked at Brooklyn Naval Yard. She was active in Daughters of the American Revolution, enjoyed playing the piano while volunteering at Graceland Care Center and served as a volunteer at the Oxford Lafayette County Library in the Skipwith Room and volunteered at The Pantry in Oxford. She also managed the dining hall at Camp Lake Stephens.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Harper Anderson “Andy” Peacock; two daughters, Marian Peacock Connolly of Washington, D.C. and Martha Peacock Howorth of Oxford; one sister, Olga Harris of Fort Bayard, N.M. and three grandchildren.

BATESVILLE– Bessie Melton Smith, 64, died Friday, August 29, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were Tuesday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Smith, born Oct. 17, 1943, to the late Elbert Melton and the late Elizabeth Belle Hardin Melton, was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ellis Smith; one son, Troy Smith and one daughter, Margaret Tutor.

Survivors include: one son, Michael Smith of Batesville; two brothers, Wayne Melton and Q.T. Melton, both of Enid; two sisters, Mattie Bland and Ruby White, both of Batesville; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

COLDWATER– Matthew M.J. Wallace Sr., 94, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008. He was the father of Otis James Wallace of Como.

Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at West Oak Grove Church of Christ in Hernando. Burial will be in New Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Coldwater. Visitation will be Saturday 10 a.m. until service time at West Oak Church of Christ. A candlelight memorial will be held today 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Central Avenue Church of Christ in Coldwater. Rodgers Funeral Home has charge.

Wallace was a retired school teacher.

Survivors along with his son include: three daughters, Mary Irene Wallace of Chicago, Wynona Rowell and Novelene Wallace, both of Coldwater; three sons, J.C. Wallace and L.H. Wallace, both of Coldwater and Z.P. Wallace of Waukgani, Ill.; one sister, Ovenia Dean of Coldwater; 33 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

BATESVILLE– Billie Weems, 86, died Sunday, August 31, 2008, in Birmingham, where he had moved in 2008 following over 30 years in the Batesville area.

Memorial services are today at 2 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home with visitation at 1 p.m. Graveside services with burial will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cash Cemetery near Lena. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Weems, born Jan. 5, 1922, to the late Marion and Willie George Weems in Good Hope, completed his BA and MA in education at Mississippi Southern College (now USM) after military service during WWII as a paymaster sergeant in the U.S. Marines. He was a principal and school teacher prior to being employed by and retiring from J.I. Case Tractor Company.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Inez Milner Weems.

Survivos include: one son, Bill W. Weems of Birmingham; one daughter, Lynda B. Mohon of Birmingham; one sister, Maureen Brown of Philadelphia; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

CARROLTON– Rose Mary Shaw Woodall, 59, died Friday, August 29, 2008. She was the sister of Donnie Shaw of Batesville.

Services were Saturday at Newsom Funeral Home. Burial was in Rice Cemetery in Paynes. Newsom Funeral Home had charge.

Woodall was a homemaker.

Survivors along with her brother include: her husband, V.J. Woodall; one daughter, Amanda Woodall of Denver; one son, Dale Woodall of Greenwood; four sisters, Carol Rideout of Charleston, Brenda Hoop of Grenada, Kattie Ann Shaw of Oxford and Lanna McKinley of Amite, La.; four brothers, Marion “Bill” Shaw of Holcomb, Bobby Shaw of Romney, W. Va., James Shaw of Rockford, Ill. and Russell Shaw of Clarksdale and three grandchildren.
