Crowder Police Chief Willie Harris had a letter-sized sheet full of calls the department answered in May when he presented the report to the town’s Mayor and Board of Aldermen at the June 6 meeting.

The list included 17 hours of patrol, with the egregious crimes of child molestation complaint, a stolen gun, and a stolen vehicle.

The department unlocked a car with a baby inside. Harris reminded the board they only answer unlocked car door calls for babies in car and for the elderly.

There were three complaints of trespassing, one by phone and two harassment complaints.

Other calls were simple assault, 15 traffic stops, one accident involving a 4-wheeler complaint, stolen cellphone, stolen radio and a stolen vehicle.

They served warrants for unpaid tickets.

Answered calls included theft of private property, four complaints of family disturbance, cocaine possession, motorcycle complaint, stalking and three public disturbances.

A shooting suspect was arrested when calls came in about shots fired.

One person was picked up for cocaine possession.

Citations were given for no driver’s license, drugs, reckless driving, no insurance, running a stop sign, no child restraints, no seat belts, and no tags.

Harris said they are trying to serve warrants for people who owe large amounts of money.

They answered one call about a stolen vehicle, but it had actually been repossessed.

Shot were fired June 5 at Quitman Apartments around 1 a.m., the chief reported.

Other business

Mayor Tommie Dorris was selected to be the voting delegate at the Mississippi Municipal League Conference in Biloxi.

The backhoe repair cost proposed was voted down. Already paid for backhoe repair in previous months is $4,638. City Clerk Stephanie Armstead asked for a payment plan and they agreed for $1,100 per month.

Work that has not been done will be about $7,000, or the town can make payments of $1,936 for four months.

Armstead will apply for grants to pay for repairs but it will take about a year. A rental option was also available at $2,000 per month.

The board was told by Mrs. Watts that with that $1,500 grant they were supposed to apply before making the ordinance. The ordinance was approved.
