Northwest plans evening, weekend nursing classes
Northwest Mississippi Community College will begin offering an evening/weekend program in Practical Nursing in Oxford next January, according to Dr. Stephanie Mullins, director of Practical Nursing Programs.
She explained that those students who are accepted into the program will begin study in January 2019 and graduate in July 2020. “It is a five-semester program because students are not going to school during the day. They are also required to do clinicals, which are mostly done on Saturdays,” Mullins said. She stated that classroom instruction and lab time will be done in the evening, and the number of days a week that classes are offered each semester will vary in accordance with what they are studying.
“We have a successful evening/weekend program at the DeSoto Center and the Lafayette-Yalobusha community had voiced a great interest in this program. Oxford seemed to be the perfect choice for another program of this kind,” Mullins said. She explained that the program is geared toward people who may be working a full-time job or at home caring for family and unable to come to the daytime program.
Mullins indicated that space is limited for the Oxford evening/weekend program at this point. For more information on the program, visit the college’s website at northwestms.edu/pn or contact Mullins at smullins@northwestms.edu.
