Juanita Manley letter

Saturday, April 26 we and our three grandchildren went to McDonald’s for carry out and went home to enjoy our meals. After eating their meals, my nine-year-old grandson noticed a white pill in his food box.
At once I called Batesville Police Department and filed a report with Sgt. Gary Morris and returned to the fast-food restaurant to ask “why” the pill was in the box.
No one knew why or where the pill came from. The manager gave the company’s 800 number and I talked to a representative who said she would have the owner call me. That was May 5 and I have yet to hear from the owner or anyone from McDonald’s to explain the pill or to check on my child.
I have called several times with no return call to me.
This nine-year-old could have been a three-year-old and not known not to eat the pill.
Juanita Manley
(Editor’s note: Ms. Manley provided a police report that revealed tests done on the pill by the Batesville Branch of the Mississippi Crime Lab indicated that the pill was not a controlled substance, but contained Mannitol that could be purchased like a supplement type pill.)
