Statutory rape charges levied in city court

As county reports for sex crimes increase, Batesville Municipal Court heard a case of statutory rape. Jonathan David Langford, no address, was charged with statutory rape. Langford requested a court appointed attorney to be appointed at a later date.
James McGhee, 134 Patton Ln., Batesville, was found guilty of domestic violence-simple assault after the court heard sworn testimony from Officer Terrell. McGhee faces a $417 fine to be paid in 30 days.
Thomas Anthony, 34 Forest Dr., Sardis, appeared for his trial on careless driving charges. Officer J. P. Wallace provided video evidence showing the vehicle Anthony was driving swerve across two lanes of traffic. Judge Jay Westfaul found Anthony guilty of careless driving. Anthony will serve three days on the work program.
Judge Westfaul heard six cases for shoplifting
Jatavius Keys, no address, pleaded guilty to shoplifting and disorderly conduct failure to comply. Keys has 30 days to pay the $1,793 fine.
Anthony Burson, 1617 CR 51, Myrtle, failed to appear to answer charges for shoplifting. A warrant was issued for Burson’s arrest.
Russell K. Nabors, 10673 Hwy. 41, Pontotoc, pleaded not guilty to shoplifting. The case is set to go to trial May 23.
Matthew L. Powell, 1237 N. Airline Ave, Gramercy, La., pleaded guilty to shoplifting. Powell has 30 days to pay the $1,146 fine.
Crystal Woods, 150 Peeler 82, Covington, pleaded guilty to shoplifting. Woods faces a $1,146 fine.
Michele Gallagher, 2581 Ray Bluff, Millington, pleaded guilty to shoplifting. “I spoke with the clerk about a payment plan,” said Gallagher.
“Whatever the clerk has worked out is fine with me,” said the judge.
Felisha Hunt, 187 Milam Rd., Batesville, pleaded guilty to shoplifting. Hunt also has old fines in the amount of $1,301 from Oct. 2017. The total $2,447 in fines is to be paid in 60 days.
Michael Strong, 25643 Hwy. 35, Sardis, changes his plea to guilty for charges of DUI-other, expired driver’s license, and no proof of insurance. Strong was ordered to attend MASEP classes and has 60 days to pay the $1,694 fine.
Lavonzelle Hill, 414 Frederick St., Sardis, pleaded guilty to simple possession of marijuana. Hill faces a $443 fine due in 30 days.
Melody L. Sanderson, 218 Water St., Quitman, was charged with contempt of court for old fines in the amount of $1,061 days from Aug. 2017. Sanderson has 30 days to pay the old fines.
Marcia T. Black, 211 Noble St., Batesville, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, speeding 36 MPH in a 25 MPH zone, no proof of insurance and no driver’s license. The case was bound over to the Panola County Grand Jury.
Marshon Doyle, 195 Third St., Crowder, was charged with felony possession of stolen firearms and false information. Doyle requested a bond reduction which the judge granted lowering the $15,000 bond to $5,000.
Demetrias Henderson, 2173 McKellee Woods, Memphis, failed to appear to answer charges for contempt of court for an old $771 fine from July 2017. Henderson has a new charge for speeding 52 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. Ask First Bonding Company has been notified.
Brian Vasquez, 216 Noble St., Batesville, failed to appear to answer charges of possession of marijuana in a vehicle, no tag and no driver’s license. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Christopher Brown, 366 Tony Keating Rd., Batesville, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana in a vehicle. The case was bound over to Circuit Court.
Jerry Callicutt, 150 Corlee St., Sardis, was charged with false pretenses. The case was dismissed due to lack of prosecution.
