The Batesville Jr. High baseball team is 4-0-2 after defeated Oxford 6-3 Monday and tieing the second game at seven.
Dion Mix picked up the win for the Tigers pitching the complete game in four innings.
Four pitchers shared the mound in the second game: Jake Rogers, Luke Latham, Bobby Epps and Hunter Durham.
In the first game, Bobby Epps got on base on a walk and scored on a Hunter Lawrence single RBI. Then Lawrence scored on a passed ball for the 2-0 lead.
The second inning was big for the Tigers as they scored four runs. Tays Hardy and Will Dickins walked and then Blake Darby laid down a bunt to load the bases. hardy scored on a RBI by No. 28 and Dickins and Hardy scored on passed balls. Epps walked and worked his way around the diamond to third base. Lawrence’s single RBI drove home Epps for the final run of the game.
“Every boy put the bat on the ball and got in scoring position,” said head coach Amir Hunt. “They did a really good job.”
The junior high played Winona last night, but the score was not available at press time. Batesville Jr. High has two more games left in the season. Monday they travel to Oxford and on Thursday they host Oxford. The games are doubleheaders and start at 5 each night.
More Sports
The South Panola Jr. High girls will play at Senatobia Monday and at Grenada on Saturday, April 5. The last home game against Starkville has been replaced with a varsity doubleheader that day.
The South Panola tennis team will host Desoto Central Monday at 4 p.m. and Olive Branch on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
