Lady Tigers shut out Greenville, 4-0; Lady Tigers fall to Grenada 7-4 Thursday
By Myra Bean
The South Panola Lady Tigers kept themselves into playoff consideration with a 4-0 shutout of Greenville-Weston Tuesday afternoon, but all playoff hopes died with a 7-4 loss to Grenada Thursday.
Greenville was almost a half hour late getting to the field, but the game got started around 4:35 p.m.
The Lady Tigers looked like a team on a mission as they worked like a well-oiled machine to lock up the win. The Lady Tigers recorded two on base errors.
Bethany Moore pitched the complete game in seven innings and got the win on the mound, striking out two, allowing five hits and walking two.
The Lady Tigers scored the first run in the bottom of the second inning.
Moore’s single drove home Sally Burdette, who had singled, for a RBI (run batted in).
In the bottom of the third, Haley Hood, who got on base on a Greenville error, scored from third on a Casi Brooks single.
Haylei Plummer, who had doubled to get on base, scored from third on a Sabrina Townsend at bat. Townsend got on base on a fielder’s choice, but Brooks was out going to second base.
The last run came in the bottom of the third inning. Tyunna Diggs got on base on a Greenville dropped ball error then scored on a Meri Morgan Fortune RBI double.
The Lady Tigers will finish the regular season next week with two non-conference games at home. Tuesday, they will host Cleveland and Thursday, J.Z. George. Both games are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
