John Samuel Dodd
POPE–John Samuel Dodd, 81, died Monday, July 2, 2007, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services were Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church. Kevin Crofford officiated. Burial was in Sardis Lake Baptist Church Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Dodd, born April 5, 1926, in Greenwood, to the late Toby Noel Dodd and the late Rena Mae Duncan Dodd, was a World War II veteran. He was a retired contractor, a civil defense director, a Panola County Sheriff’s Deputy and a Panola County road manager. He was a member of the Civitan Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Civil Defense.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Jo Dodd and Lula Dodd Shivers and one brother, Toby Noel “Ed” Dodd Jr.
Survivors include: his wife, Earnestine Moore Dodd of Pope; two daughters, Judy Dodd Scott of Independence and Carol Dodd Joslin of Cartersville, Ga.; one son, John Samuel “Johnny” Dodd Jr. of Gulfport; three sisters, Jean Dodd Kelly of Greenwood; Helen Dodd Guess of Kosciusko and Lucille Dodd Haddock of Monroe, La.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Sardis Lake Baptist Church Cemetery, 24709 Hwy. 35 in Sardis.
SOUTHAVEN–Danny Wayne Gray, 26, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at his residence.
Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday at 11 a.m. until service time. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Gray, born Jan. 23, 1981, in Sardis, was employed with Rivercity Sprinklers of Memphis.
Survivors include: his mother and step-father, Susan Caruthers Hyde and Stan Hyde, of Sardis; his father and step-mother, Gary Gray and Louise Gray, of Pope; two sisters, Cassie Gray of Pope and Amber Hyde of Sardis; two brothers, Michael Gray of Batesville and Scott Caruthers of Sardis and his grandparents, Marie and Gerald Gray of Batesville.
BATESVILLE–Mattie Pearl Hughery, 66, died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Spring Hill Asa M.B. Church in Courtland. Rev. Louis Wilson Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Hill Asa Cemetery in Courtland. Visitation is today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Hughery, born Aug. 6, 1940, to the late Roosevelt Hughery and the late Allive Cole, was a retired machine operator for Parker Hannifan Company. She was also a member of Spring Hill Asa M.B. Church.
Survivors include: three daughters, Phyllis Calicutt, Linda Rudd and Allive Harris, all of Batesville; one son, Bobby Joe Hughery of Senatobia; one sister, Minnie Tyrus of Cleveland, Ohio; three brothers, Shufford Hughery of Batesville, J.T. Hughery of Memphis and Willie James Hughery of New York and 12 grandchildren.
SARDIS–Bobby Gene McCullar, 54, died Monday, July 2, 2007, at his residence.
Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
McCullar was born Feb. 21, 1953, in Water Valley, to the late Shirley Reaves and Silvia Quay Langham McCullar.
Survivors include: his wife, Mildred Ann Carlisle McCullar of Sardis; three daughters, Lisa Michelle McCullar Robbins of Sardis, Lisa Michelle McCullar Hall of Como and Kandi Leigh McCullar Gironlegardo of Hernando; four sisters, Joann McCullar Vandergriff of Carlbats, N.M., Gail McCullar Fly of Water Valley, Dianne McCullar Cadena of Batesville and Patricia McCullar Sims of Water Valley; his twin brother, Billy Dean McCullar of Courtland and seven grandchildren.
BATESVILLE–Clara Delene Crouch Lantrip Murphey, 90, died Monday, July 2, 2007.
Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial will be in Black Jack Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Rev. Larry Sappington and Rev. Calvin Inman will officiate. Visitation will be Friday 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. and 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. on Saturday at Dickins Funeral Home. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.
Murphey, born, Jan. 21, 1917, to the late James Monroe Crouch and the late Edna Delene Bankston, was a retired beautician. She graduated from Moler College Beauty School in Memphis and Courtland High School. She was a former member of Pisgah Methodist Church, First Baptist Church of Batesville and Black Jack Presbyterian Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school treasurer, Synod treasurer, and a member of the Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Black Jack PTA, community club, extension homemakers club and Keenagers of Batesville Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Lantrip and Tommie Lee Murphey.
Survivors include: one daughter, Jackie Jean Lantrip Deaton Mulvey; one sister, Lucile Crouch Inman; two brothers, Walter Eugene Crouch and Jiles Elliot Crouch; four grandchildren, Michael Clinton Deaton of Pensacola, Fla., Mark Lantrip Deaton of Cypress, Texas, Bradley Thomas Deaton of Mobile, Ala. and Vivian Claire Tolentino of San Antonio, Texas and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
