The Panolian: OPINIONS

From the 6/23/06 issue of The Panolian :

OPINION:
Dog’s reunion also survival celebration

On page 14A there’s a photo of a happy ending to a good story about a little dog which got separated from its owners when their car rolled over on Interstate 55. Through the efforts of many animal lovers both local and distant, Marissa has been reunited with her owners and has returned home to Missouri.

Underlying the celebration of Marissa’s reunion with her family is another celebration and that is that the family survived the wreck. They brought photos with them last week when they came for Marissa. "It was a wonder anyone survived," wrote Panola Humane Society volunteer Jana Burnham after she saw the photos. "They gave credit to wearing seat belts."

Everyone was strapped in properly Amy Wood told us. She and her boyfriend were in the front seat and her children, ages 2 and 4, were seated in age/weight appropriate car seats, all properly belted. Too often we find that we still need to be reminded of the importance of wearing seat belts.

So as we shared the joy of a family with children and their reunion with their beloved little dog, we were also celebrating their survival. Not only did they survive what surely would have been a catastrophic rollover accident. They escaped with such minor injuries that they could direct their concern toward recovering their little lost dog.
