JSU’s Kory Chapman Earns OVC Honor After Rushing for 298 Yards

 BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Two days after rushing for a school-record 298 yards, Jacksonville State’s Kory Chapman has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Week.
Chapman, a native of Batesville, became just the third JSU player to top 200-yards in a game and broke Boyce Callahan’s 33-year rushing record of 275 yards set in 1970 vs UNA.
Chapman also had two kick returns for 41 yards to give him 339 all-purpose yards in JSU’s 34-24 OVC win over UT-Martin on Saturday. His 298 yards was the second best effort in all of I-AA this season and he finished the game with 10.3 yards per carry and had seven plays of more than 20 yards.
The Gamecocks travel to face league-leading Tennessee State on Saturday in Nashville. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m. at the Coliseum.
Kory is the son of Frankie and Robert Chapman of Batesville.

North Delta to Face
Unbeaten Marvell

BATESVILLE – The Marvell, Ark., Eagles come to North Delta tonight with a 7-0 overall, 3-0 district record.
In 2001 the Eagles finished the season 2-9. In 2002 they finished 6-5.
This senior-laden team is taking no prisoners in its bid to be the top team at the end of the season. In the district Marvell has defeated Marshall Academy 26-6, West Memphis Christian, 20-14 and Kirk Academy 42-0.
Backtracking the schedule, Kirk Academy is the only district team North Delta has lost to this season.
The Eagles will bring to town a team with 13 seniors who start on both offense and defense. Green Wave head coach Rick Johnston said the Eagles have improved tremendously this season.

Cougars to Play Biggest Game of Season Tonight

The rubber will meet the road tonight as the North Panola Cougars travel to Cleveland to take on the Cleveland High School Wildcats in a crucial 3-3A matchup.
The Cougars (4-3 overall, 3-1 district) are coming off a big win over Cleveland East Side at home Friday night. Cleveland (5-2 overall, 3-0 district) is vying for another shot at the playoffs. They lost in the first round last year.
Cleveland is led by senior running back Ken Cox who rushed for over 1,400 yards last season.

| The South Panola High School marching band will be participating in the Liberty Bowl Band Masters Championship Marching Festival tomorrow in Memphis.
Members of the percussion section Ebonie Shegog (l) and Victoria Rice, along with the band, perform for the crowd at the football game Friday nights.
The percussion received a superior rating last week in the Miss. High School Activities Association State Marching Band Festival.

SP Prepares for Rival Tupelo

BATESVILLE – After South Panola’s sound defeat of Columbus, 40-6, last week that left the Tigers and the Starkville Yellowjackets at the top of 1-5A at 3-0 each in the district.
Though Starkville lost to 4A Louisville in the season opener, they have won six straight.
Tonight the No. 1 Tigers (7-0 overall, 3-0 district) will host long time rival Tupelo (3-4 overall, 0-3 district). The two teams have a rich and varied history through the last few years.
This gets to be such an emotional game for the fans and players of both teams. Many times there have been some complaining about the officials, but mostly the competitiveness of these two teams is always something to look forward to.
The last seven years have proved that no matter which team is having the banner year, a good game will always be played.
