The teams played a classic football game who battled it out to the very end for the title. The weather was perfect for a football game with the temperature at 50 degrees.

North Delta running back Collins Bryant scored both touchdowns in the game for the Green Wave.

Oak Forest got on the boards first as scored on a seven yard run with 4:17 left in the first quarter. The Yellowjackets went 60 yards in seven plays to score. The extra point gave the Yellowjackets a 7-0 lead.

With 7:29 left in the first half, Oak forest fumbled and Bryant recovered it on the Yellowjacket 29-yard line.

Dallas Allgood and Jeremy Aldridge brought the ball down the field to the 20 yard line.

Bryant carried the ball five more times before he scored on a two yard run.

The extra point kick by Allgood tied the game 7-7 and it stood at halftime. Offensive linemen Hal West and Brandon Ciaramitaro made some holes for Bryant on that drive.

Oak Forest retook the lead in the third quarter on a one-yard run with 3:26 left in the quarter. Oak Forest drove the ball 61 yards in 13-plays. The extra points gave the Yellowjackets a 14-7 lead.

The Green Wave started its next touchdown drive at the end of the third quarter.

Bryant broke for a 36 yard run and brought the ball to the Yellowjacket 35 yard line. A penalty and loss yardage hindered the Green Wave but the offense bounced back and picked up a first down on the first down of the fourth quarter.

From the 30 yard line, Aldridge completed a 29 yard pass to Brett Lott who was tackled at the one yard. Bryant scored his second touchdown of the evening on a one-yard run with 10:13 left in the game.

Allgood’s PAT tied the game at 14.

On Oak Forest’s final drive of the evening, the Yellowjackets took the ball with 5:11 left in the game.

The Yellowjackets converted one third down and a fourth and inches to maintain possession of the ball and run more time off the clock.

The Green Wave were looking forward to a possible overtime when the Yellowjackets kept racking up penalties and losing yards. With 1:00 left, the Yellowjackets were flagged with an offside. With 51.7 seconds, the Yellowjackets were flagged with illegal motion which brought up first down and 20 on the 26 yard line.

The Yellowjackets drove the ball up the middle for 10 yards to gain back lost yardage with 21.5 seconds left.

On second down and 10, the Yellowjackets drove to the seven yard line and took another timeout with 15.2 seconds left. On third and one from the seven, the Yellowjackets converted the winning field goal.

HORN LAKE – Despite a neck and neck beginning and last minute surge, the No. 1 Tigers defeated the No. 10 Horn Lake Eagles to vie for the North Half Championship Friday, Nov. 29.

The Tigers will be back on the road again to face Southaven in a rematch from Oct. 25. The Tigers won 28-14.

Southaven is coming off two road wins in the playoffs this year. Last week, Southaven defeated Warren Central in the quarterfinal round 15-9. Kickoff is 7 p.m. and admission is $7.

The Tigers dominated the Eagles in the second half to walk away with a 56-35 win before a capacity, standing room only crowd, which seemed to number over 5,000 but no attendance was announced.

Thanks to two interceptions returned for two touchdowns in the second half, the Tigers were able to solidify the lead and the win.

The Eagles and Tigers were tied at 21 at halftime.

The Eagles came out very strong on the first possession after the Tigers deferred to receive the ball the second half. Horn Lake drove 70 yards in 10-plays to put the first points on the board. Horn Lake scored on a two yard run with 8:23 left in the first quarter and led 7-0 after the point after (PAT).

The Tigers did not attempt to waste that much time scoring on their first possession. Tailback Marcus Griffin scored his first of three touchdowns on a 68-yard run on second down and nine with 7:24 left in the first quarter. Griffin did not play in the Nov. 15 game due to an ankle injury.

After Randy Wilson’s extra point kick, the score was tied 7-7. Wilson was eight-for-eight extra points on the evening.
