Brenda Huggins Clark

BATESVILLE–Brenda Joyce Huggins Clark, 70, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at her home.
She was born on August 24, 1946 in Memphis to Joe and Hazel Huggins.
She was a Baptist and a true southern lady.  A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she was also a good listener and was always available when her family needed her.  As a registered nurse, which was her “true” calling, she touched the lives of many people through her compassionate dedication and selfless service.
Mrs. Clark is survived by her loving family which includes her husband of 52 years, William (A.C.) Clark of Batesville; two daughters, Shari Case (Troy) of Sardis and Heather Rippee (Ragan) of Oxford; one son, Mike Clark (Lana) of Oxford, N.Y.; two brothers, Michael A. Huggins of Memphis and Anthony Huggins of New Orleans, LA; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 2 in the chapel of Dickins Funeral Home in Batesville. Interment was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Daryl Hemmings

Daryl Alan Hemmings, 58, of Columbus, Indiana, formerly of Batesville, passed from this life at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at his home.
Daryl was born January 29, 1959, in Columbus, the son of William Conley Hemmings II and Julia Ann Davis Hemmings. He married Brigitta “Midg” E.M. Potthoff December 24, 2011.
Daryl was a U.S. Navy veteran during the post Vietnam era and served on the USS Glover. He rose to the rank of Yeoman Third Class and was honorably discharged July 13, 1981.
Daryl had a passion for photography and was a self-employed photographer. He was also involved in the family business, Hemmings Bakeries in Columbus.
Daryl was a veracious reader, had traveled the world, enjoyed classic movies, and was a one of kind awesome cook.
Daryl is survived by his wife, Brigitta “Midg” Hemmings; his mother, Julia Ann Hemmings of Batesville, MS; a daughter, Dominee (Chris) Burton of Elizabethtown, IN; grandson, Robert Gustav “Gus” Burton; a sister, Christina (Benjamin) Darby of Huntsville, AL; brothers, William Conley Hemmings III of Batesville, MS and Dave Hemmings of Troy, MI; Nephews, Brandon Hemmings of Brooklyn, NY and Noah Darby of Huntsville, AL; a niece, Julianna Darby of Nashville, TN; and his mother-in-law, Adele Potthoff of Columbus, IN.
Daryl was preceded in death by his father, William Conley Hemmings II and his father-in-law, Gustav Potthoff.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Daryl’s cousin, Jim Hemmings of Cincinnati, OH and close friend, Jason Atkins of Greenwood, IN for their support during Daryl’s illness.
In keeping with Daryl’s wishes, cremation is planned. A memorial service will be announced at the convenience of the family.

Burne Earl Stitts

COMO–Burne Earl Stitts, 64, died March 30, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East in Memphis.
He was born in Como April 29, 1952 to John Ed Stitts and Julia D. Stitts.
He was a construction worker and member of Mt. Level M.B. Church in Como.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Level, with Pastor Jessie Frison officiating. Burial will be in Harmonia Cemetery in Sardis.
Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Albert Eugene Whitten

Mr. Albert “Bozo” Eugene Whitten, 81, of Newnan, Ga., passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Southland Nursing and Rehabilitation.
He was born November 29, 1935 in Batesville, Mississippi to the late Lester Whitten and Ruby Freeman Whitten.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Albert “Bert” Whitten Jr.
Al grew up in Batesville  and served in the Signal Corps in the Army.
He was the longtime owner of Atlanta Scales, LLC and was a member of Mills Chapel Baptist Church. 
The funeral was Saturday, April 1, 2017 in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Smith officiating.  Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include wife, Jean Stacks Whitten; children, Vickie (David) Stewart, Mark (Victoria) Whitten, Donna Provost; grandchildren, Daree (Steven) Johnson, Kira (Corey) McKenzie, Jonah Whitten, Noah Whitten, Isabella Whitten; great-grandchild, Briley McKenzie; and special cousin, Linda Mitchell.
