Lady Tigers sweep in Oxford

After losing their first game of the season 8-4 to Hernando last week, the South Panola Lady Tigers softball team rebounded with a pair of easy wins over Mantachie (13-0) and Vancleave (10-1) Saturday in an Oxford tournament.

In a Monday night game this week, the team beat Olive Branch 19-0. No individual results from that game were available at press time.

The Lady Tigers (9-1) pounded out 14 hits to make quick work of the Mustangs in the first game of the day as Makenzie Houston homered and singled with three RBIs to lead the way. 

  

Jena Grace Burnett, Kailey Mckinney and Olivia Phillips drove in two runs each as South Panola plated seven runs in the first and three each in the second and fourth innings. 

Grady Beck Wilson, Hannah Roberson, KB Shearon, Sadie Bright, Siena Cabrera, Carrie Anna Davis and Baylee Little all singled in victory. Kaylee Glover also drove in a run for South Panola.

  Bright picked up the pitching win with eight strikeouts on no hits.

South Panola continued their offensive onslaught with 13 hits off Lady Bulldog pitching. 

Wilson and Heafner led the way with three singles each while Nia Fondren drove in three runs with two doubles. Houston also drove in two runs with a single and triple while Bright added a single and scored two runs. 

Mckinney also scored two runs on a single and double.

 Wilson earned the pitching win with a season-high 11 strikeouts on five hits.

The Lady Tigers have a busy week ahead as they host Desoto Central tonight before traveling to Hernando tomorrow then four games in two days in the Gulfport Tournament next week during Spring Break.

South Panola plays Spanish Fort (AL) and D’ibreville Monday followed by Newton County and Ocean Springs on  Tuesday.
