Elenar Bonner Freeman, 86

Elenar Bonner Freeman, 86, passed away Friday morning, Oct. 4, 2024 at the Pinnacle Assisted Living in Oxford.

A graveside service to celebrate Elenar’s life was held on Monday, Oct. 7, t Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville.

Elenar was born on Oct. 10, 1937 to the late William Bufford Bonner, Sr. and Zelma Elizabeth Burhcell Bonner in Enid. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Batesville.

Elenar dedicated herself to the art of cosmetology, earning her associate’s degree in the field from Northwest College. Her passion for beauty and her talent shone brightly throughout her career, during which she owned her own salon for many years. Later in life, she extended her skills and warmth to the residents at Fairfield Assisted Living, where she provided hair services and brought joy to many.

Elenar was not only an accomplished cosmetologist but also a passionate supporter of her local sports teams. Friday nights were a delight for her as she cheered on the South Panola Tigers, sharing in the excitement of community spirit. She was also a devoted fan of the Ole Miss Rebels, and found great joy in watching the football team. Elenar also was a collector of costume jewelry that she would find at yard sales and enjoyed wearing all of her treasurers.

Family was at the heart of Elenar’s life. She had a deep and abiding love for her grandchildren, attending every sporting event they participated in. Her presence in their lives provided them with unwavering support and a source of joy that will be cherished forever.

Elenar’s life was one marked by kindness, vibrancy, and a deep commitment to her family and work.

The family she leaves behind to cherish her memory include her two children, Cathy Freeman Garner (David) of Batesville,  and Harold “Bubba” Freeman, Jr. of Pope; her special friend, Howard Harmon of Water Valley; four grandchildren, Quentin Garner, Mary Beth Holloway, Amber Davis, and Ferrel Garner; ten great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; and her special family friend, Linda Mitchell of Batesville.

Along with her parents, she is rejoicing in heaven with her beloved husband, Harold Freeman; her precious grandson, Trey Freeman; and her two siblings, Dorothy Boatright and William B. Bonner, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that any memorial contributions to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Samaritan’s Purse.
