On Tuesday, August 20,  at approximately 3:22 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a crash on Highway 7 in Lafayette County.

A 2006 Volvo driven by 31-year-old Jerdarvis D. Gipson of Oxford was traveling north on Highway 9W when it left the roadway and rolled over.

Jerdarvis D. Gipson was not injured from the crash and was released on the scene.

A passenger in the Volvo, 28-year-old Jeremy M. McNeal of Sardis received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.

A passenger in the Volvo, 31-year-old Shuntez J. Smith of Hernando received severe injuries from the crash and was transported to a local hospital.

This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
