Fred Claitor Bailey, Jr., age 81, of Sardis, MS, passed away Friday August 16, 2024 at Sardis Nursing Home.

A graveside service was held Monday, Aug. 19, at Magnolia Cemetery.

Fred was born February 6, 1943 in Lambert to the late Fred Claitor Bailey and Marjorie Roberts Bailey. A member of Crowder Baptist Church, Fred’s church family was very important to him. Quite often, Fred would be the first to arrive on Sunday morning and Wednesday night. He took great pride and joy in helping in numerous ways around the church.

In his spare time, Fred enjoyed deer hunting and fishing and making trips to the family deer camp. Fred was very active in the family farming operation throughout his life, until his retirement.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Bailey Bradford and his brother-in-law, Lanny Bradford.

The family he leaves to cherish his memory include his brothers, Glenn Bailey (Eleanor), of Batesville,  and Van Bailey (Ruth), of Enid; as well as several nieces and nephews, Angela Bailey Rowsey, Victor Bailey (Brandy), Torie Bailey Nabors (Jason), Lisa Bradford Capell (John), Andrea Bradford Townsend (Todd), Brad Bailey (Jenny), and Sara Bailey Russo (Richard).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Crowder Baptist Church 300 Perkins St. Crowder, MS or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
