Trump, Wicker lead Republican votes here

President Joe Biden won the Democratic Primary and former President Donald Trump led the Republican Party balloting in Panola County in the state’s primary last Tuesday, March 12,
In Panola, 3,403 of the registered 22,502 votes went to the polls – 1,260 voted Democratic and 2,143 chose the Republican ballot.
The largest turnout in the county’s 21 precincts was at Batesville Courthouse where 392 votes were cast – 101 for Democrats and 291 for Republicans.
The smallest turnout in the county was at Pleasant Grove where 14 Democratic ballots were cast and 27 Republicans’.
Biden received a total of 1,215 votes and was the only name on the Presidential side. For Representative of the 2nd Congressional District, incumbent Rep. Benny Thompson outpolled challenger Ty Pinkins 1,231 to 1,067 and will be the nominee in the November election.
On the Republican side, Trump garnered 2,053 votes. Ron DeSantis, Nikki Hailey, and Vivek Ramaswamy were also on the ballot and together had 79 votes although they had each dropped out of the race before the Mississippi primary.
In the race for the nomination for Senate in the Republican Party for the November general election, incumbent Sen. Roger Wicker won soundly in Panola County, getting 1,284 votes to the 478 for Ghannon Burton and the 360 for Dan Eubanks.
In the race for the nomination for 2nd Congressional District Representative in November, Andrew Scott Smith got 997 votes in Panola, followed by 725 for Ron Eller, and 242 for Taylor Turcotte.
Statewide, there will be runoff in two weeks between Eller and Smith for that nomination and the right to face Thompson in the genera election.
