He’s a Leaper!

Chase and Jessica McCraney of Batesville welcomed Noah James McCraney at 6:34 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford. He weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces. Because Feb. 29 comes only every 1,461 days to accommodate adjustments to the standard 365 day calendar, babies born on the date are often called Leap Year kids, or Leapers. Many are part of groups that have special events to mark the rare birthdays. Young Noah won’t have to wait four years to have his first birthday celebration, though, as the proud parents are already thinking about next year’s party, probably on Feb. 28, 2025. The History Channel estimates the world currently has about 5 million people with Leap Day birthdays. (Contributed)
