Albert Thomas “Tom” Byars,  72, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.

The family held a memorial gathering Wednesday afternoon, April 6,  from 4  – 6 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville.

Tom was born July 10, 1949 in Memphis, to the late Albert Thomas and Margaret Elizabeth Grantham Byars. He was an electrician with the Local IBEW #474 Union and was of the Methodist faith. Tom always enjoyed fishing. In his younger years, Tom liked to ride motorcycles and to go snow skiing and snow mobile riding in the mountains. Tom was a very talented musician. He could play the guitar, fiddle and banjo just to name a few.

Tom’s playful and loving memory will be cherished by his wife of 53 years, Bettye Jo Walker Byars of Sardis; daughter, Cherish Byars Brown of Caledonial; son, Jerry Byars of Somerville, TN; sister, Melissa Byars Ruby of Terry; brother, Byron Carlton Byars of Bartlett, TN; two grandchildren, Lauren Brown and Gracen Brown.

Along with his parents, Tom was preceded in death by two sons, Andrew Thomas “Andy” Byars, Terry Carlton Byars, and one sister, Cynthia Ann Byars Seymour.
