Cougars sweep Coldwater at home

Tuesday was the final regular season home game for North Panola’s Ankerion Gross, and the senior forward truly made the most of it.

The Pearl River Community College signee poured in 29 points which included five monstrous dunks as the Cougars hammered Coldwater 94-51 on Senior Night at the Cougar Den.

North Panola (17-9) ends the regular season tonight as they travel to Independence.

Fellow senior Javon Williams added 16 points, ten coming in the fourth quarter while Cedquavious Hunter provided 13 North Panola.

Both teams came out firing in the opening quarter as the home standing Cougars took a slim 19-18 advantage.

North Panola gradually began to pull away as the second period got underway with Gross knocking down a three pointer to give the Cougars a 32-22 lead.

Hunter got the crowd on their feet as he went coast-to-coast for a one-handed jam  to make the score 38-24.

Gross put an exclamation point on the first half by banking home a three-pointer as time expired.

Demartius Wright and Dee Davis each provided eight points while Kevon Nunley supplied six. Canijah Jones and Eric Williams each chipped in with four points

Jakeen Bowdey contributed three points while Carl Robinson finished with two.

Senior Sherry Connor scored 18 points,16 of which came in the first half as the Lady Cougars doubled up Coldwater to improve their record to 9-15 on the year.

Shaniyah Brown followed with 12 points. Senior Eriunna Goings supplied seven while Paris Farmer contributed five.

North Panola led from the opening tipoff and contained a double digit margin throughout the second half.

Mia Taylor tallied three points with Kiyah Cooper finishing with two points.
