Edward Charles Collins, 66, of Como, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2019 at St. Frances Hospital- Memphis.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug.t 17,  at Cistern Hill M.B. Church in Como. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

He was the son of the late Edward and Geraldine Collins. He was a member of Cistern Hill M.B. Church.

 

Aubrey Howe, age 87, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North MS in Oxford.

Funeral arrangements will be posted by Wells Funeral Home when finalized.

 

Seriah Jean (Chapin) Kalyanmasih, 26, joined her Savior on July 19, 2019, as a result of injuries suffered in a car accident in Tempe, Ariz. She was born Dec. 8, 1992, in Tucson to Suellen and Sean Chapin who survives her.

She is also survived by three sisters, Sarah of California, Sierra of Tucson, and Saige of Colorado; and two brothers, Stephen and Shelton of Tucson.

Seriah is also survived by grandparents Hollis and Joyce Russell of Batesville, Jim and Shay Givens of Kingman, Ariz., and Joe and Kim Chapin of Willcox, Ariz. Also surviving are many cousins, nieces and nephews, and aunts and uncles which she loved dearly.

Her husband, A.J. Kalyanmasik of Winston-Salem, N.C., also survives her.

She enjoyed the outdoors, succulents, any wildflowers, and sunflowers. She loved to organize things and people. She was the official baker of the family for special occasions.

Seriah was an old soul who loved helping people anyway she could, as with her organ donations to benefit others. She loved her Lord and her family. She will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held Aug. 17 in Tucson.

Funeral services for James Clifton Lamar, Jr., 69, will be Saturday, Aug. 17 at noon at Walton Chapel CME Church in Sardis. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home.

He died Thursday, Aug.  9, 2019, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

He was born June 15, 1950, in Sardis to the late James Lamar Sr., and the late Geneva Hoofe Lamar.

Visitation is today (Aug. 16) from 2 to 6 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

 

Evelyn Hayes Lee, 96, of Sardis, died peacefully at Providence Assisted Living Center in Batesville on Aug.t 12, 2019. She was preceded in death by her spouse, George Max Lee, Sr.; her daughter, Kitty Lee Jenkins; her parents; and nine brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her son, G. Max Lee, Jr.; daughter, Anne Lee Schwerdt (Steve); grandchildren, Jennifer Lee Poulin (Danny), Ryan Lee, Max C. Lee (Blakeley), Elizabeth Jenkins Jansen (Jack), Kitty Michelle Jenkins Cangelost (John), Fred Schwerdt and Sarah Schwerdt Kirkpatrick (Trace) and 11 great-grandchildren.

Evelyn retired with 30 years of service with the North Panola County Superintendent of Education. She was an active member of St. John Church. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, bridge, travel and working with the Heflin House events during her retirement.

The family will receive friends at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18,   with recitation of the rosary.  On Monday, Aug. 19, visitation will be held from 10  to 11 a.m.  and funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Batesville. Interment of ashes will be held in Canton Cemetery at a later date.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Grace Hospice and staff of Providence of Batesville for the care given throughout her illness.

Carolyn “Baba” Phillips, age 49, passed away Monday, Aug. 12, 2019 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 15, in the chapel of Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Interment was at Crowder Cemetery.

Baba loved her God, family, church family and especially her granddaughter, Madison Marie Taylor.

Those whom she leaves behind include her husband, Mark Phillips of Crowder; one daughter, Connie Marie Taylor (Michael) of Crowder; one granddaughter, Madison Marie Taylor of Crowder; her mother, Helen Griffis of Marks; three sisters, Tammy Blaylock (Bubba) of Minter City, Tina Dungan (Maylen) of Walls, and Wanda Cook of Marks; two brothers, Mike Edge (Tammy) of Marks, Kenny Edge of Marks; and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts.

In a few weeks, Baba would  have welcomed her new grandson.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Edge, and her paternal and maternal grandparents.

Her family requests that you consider memorial contributions to the Leukemia Foundation.

 

Dena Whittington ,56, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She was the wife of Roger Whittington of Charleston.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17,  at 11 a.m. in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Batesville. The family will receive friends today (Aug. 16) from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home.  Interment will follow the service at Clear Springs Cemetery near Coffeeville. Rev. Terrell McGregor will officiate.
