Courtland’s Mayor and Board of Aldermen had a light agenda at last Tuesday’s regular meeting of the town board.
Officials approved payment of the town’s bills, and heard from Police Chief Jeremy Hailey, who has recently been promoted to the job. He told the board he will attend a mandatory meeting for chiefs of police in Bruce this month.
Hailey said the police department needs upgraded equipment. Mayor Debbie Aven asked if he had applied for grants. Hailey said he is learning about the different programs and grants that help small departments get equipment, but added that officers need protective vests now.
The police car needs repair, Hailey reported. Aldermen told the new chief to make a list of departmental needs and wants to bring to the next week, and they will look at the list when preparing next year’s budget.
Also a concern for the town board last week was flooding that had left mud and silt on the floor of the Fire Department/Town Hall. Members believe a culvert near the railroad had debris that stopped the flow of water during the last heavy rain, causing water to back into the building.
