SP fastpitch remains undefeated

The South Panola Lady Tigers remain undefeated (4-0) after beating Hernando 14-2 Thursday on the road. South Panola had a 7-1 lead going into the top of the seventh inning and scored seven insurance runs to put the game away.
Hernando really had no chance as South Panola took a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth before the home team scored its first run. Ali Cummins led at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Avery Seay followed with a 2-for-4 day with two runs, an RBI and one walk.
Kaitlyn Tidwell got the start on the mound and pitched five innings. She struck out three and allowed one run. Rebekah Cook pitched in relief the final two innings, striking out one and allowing one unearned run.
Cummins’ scored the first run of the night on a RBI single by Lena Grace Franklin. On back-to-back walks in the second inning, Tyler Hamby and Seay worked the bases. Hamby scored on an error and Seay on a wild pitch for the 3-0 lead.
Hamby went 1-for-1 and had four walks, three runs and one RBI. She was the player of the game. Bailey Ware was 1-for-3 with three runs and one walk.
Junior Varsity
SP 2, Southaven 0
The Jr. Varsity Lady Tigers posted two shutouts last week to go 2-0 early in the season.
Gracey Harbour got hit by a pitch in the first inning to get on base and scored on Tristan Goddard’s ground out to third.
In the third, Brittany Johnson walked to get on base. She advanced to third and scored on back-to-back passed balls while Layla Davis was at bat. Harbour pitched the complete game in three innings. She allowed one hit and struck out two.
Against Southaven Tuesday, the Jr. Varsity Lady Tigers won 2-0.
Harbour doubled in the first inning to get on base and scored on Laci Daniel’s sacrifice fly to center field. With two outs, Harbour singled to get on base in the second inning and scored on Goddard’s double to left field for the 2-0 lead.
Harbour pitched two innings, striking out four. She helped herself at the plate going 2-for-2 with two runs. Avery Seay pitched the third inning in relief and struck out two. They combined for a no-hitter.
Going 1-for-1 were Goddard with a RBI, and Sierra Mitchell. Makenzie Perkins had two walks.
The Lady Tigers will host Lake Cormorant today in non-conference action at 5 and 6 p.m. This weekend they will host the annual Battle in Batesville at Trussell Park Friday and Saturday.
