The Town of Sardis’ Mayor and Board of Alderman are moving forward with the annexation of the Industrial Park. Tourism coordinator Greg Davis appeared before the special called board meeting Thursday, Dec. 20, for an update of the plan, and the board gave him permission to contact Bridge and Watson to draw up annexation plans.

The area covers about 60 acres from the Interstate to the southern border to the railroad track. It would include an apartment complex, four houses and the existing industries in the park.  There is also a town park in the area that police can’t currently patrol because it’s outside the incorporated limits. Bringing that area into the town would help lawmen oversee that area.

“Businesses in the annexation area can ask for tax breaks,” Davis said, if the annexation is approved.

City services are already in the area and water and sewer infrastructure are adequate. Police and fire services can also be extended without much trouble.

Building an intersection in the area off the interstate was also part of the discussion, but aldermen took no official action on that matter.
