Emma Lou Bivins
Emma Lou Bivins, age 69, died Friday, April 20, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held Sat., April 28 at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel in Batesville. Pastor Zannie Leland will officiate. Interment will follow in Pope/Nelson Chapel Cemetery in Pope. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Ms. Bivins was born Aug. 24, 1948 in Batesville to Stanley A. Boyd and Lessie Mae Bradford Oliver. She was a retired clerk at Medical Mutual and a member of Nelson Chapel Church in Pope.
Survivors include: one son, Derek Boyd, Toledo, Ohio; two daughters, Kametrics Bivins and Renee Boyd, both of Batesville; five brothers, Zachery Pounders of Atlanta, Melvin Boyd Bradford and Larry Oliver, both of Batesville, Rickey Oliver, of Sacramento, and Marvin Pounders of New Orleans; seven sisters, Susan Griffin of Detroit, Minnie Mae Flowers of Denton, Texas, Frankie Mae Chapman and Patricia Stewart, both of Batesville; Gloria Gleaton of Pope, Dorothy Jackson of Arcadia, La, and Lucky Oliver of Toledo; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
George Gleaton
George Gleaton, 63, died Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 26, at Pope Chapel A. M. E. Zion Church. Interment followed in Chapel Hill Cemetery.
Gleaton was born June 28, 1954 to Earnest Gleaton and Nora Edna Thornton in Pope. He was a construction worker and a member of Pope Chapel A. M. E. Zion church. He was also a veteran of the United States Marines.
Barbara G. Goodnight
Barbara G. Goodnight, 80, of Sardis, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at her home.
Mrs. Goodnight was born in Sardis, on October 28, 1937 to Evelyn Arnold and Raymond Griste. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Sardis.
She was a homemaker and an Air Force wife who will be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother.
Mrs. Goodnight leaves behind her loving family which includes her husband of 60 years, James L. Goodnight; three children, Cheryl Goodnight Rae (Scot) of Greenacres, WA, Linda Goodnight Smith (Stan) of Sardis, and James Goodnight (Debbie) of Sardis; three grandchildren, Lindsey and Joel Rae, and Joshua Goodnight; one great-grandchild, Cason Goodnight.
Mrs. Goodnight was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 30, 2018 in the Sardis Chapel of Ray-Nowell Funeral Home. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home – Sardis Chapel has charge of arrangements.
Matthew Stephen Hacker
Matthew Stephen Hacker, 32, formerly of Batesville, passed away suddenly Saturday, April 21, 2018 in Ohio.
Matthew is survived by his wife, Amanda Hacker; two sons, Stephen and Michael Hacker; mother, Pamela Hacker; one brother, Joseph Lawson; and one sister, Cheyenne Hacker. He was preceeded in death by his father, Tommy “Rabbit” Hacker and his twin-brother, Michael Hacker.
Matthew was born September 8, 1985 in West Palm Beach, Fla. He grew up attending Sardis Lake Baptist Church and South Panola Schools.
Funeral Services will be held at Parkway Baptist Church in Hernando Saturday, April 28 with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and services following at 3 p.m.
Holly Springs Funeral Home has charge.

Sam Eddie Spearman
Sam Eddie Spearman, 64, died Sun., April 22, 2018 at Detroit Receiving Hospital. He is the brother of Deborah Allen of Batesville.
Services will be held Sat., April 28, at 2:30 p.m. at the Mt. Moriah Association Building in Coffeeville.
Visitation will be held today at Cooley’s Mortuary from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Interment will follow in Rounsville Cemetery in Coffeeville.
Spearman was born Sept. 7, 1953 in Coffeeville to John Spearman and Josephine Williamson. He was a laborer for the Chrysler Corp.
