James Jenkins, Johnny Earl Jones and Larry Kilgore threw out the first pitches of the Strikeout For Cancer (SOFC) games for South Panola Tuesday.
That was just about the biggest highlights as Grenada came through and left with a clean sweep of the games.
In the last game of the big evening, which was also highlighted by a state championship ring ceremony for the competitive cheer squad, Grenada held off a late push by the varsity Lady Tigers 3-2.
South Panola (7-4) scattered six hits across seven innings and committed an unprecedented 10 strikeouts.
Mallory Myers slammed a triple to left center to drive home Kaitlyn Tidwell who reached first on a single to avoid the shutout in bottom of the seventh.
Myers scored on Chloe Morgan’s single RBI (run batted in). A ground out to third base by Ali Cummings ended the comeback for the Lady Tigers.
Tidwell pitched the complete game in seven innings. She did not have any strikeouts but along with the defense they did contain Grenada pretty well.
Grenada got on the board early with a solo homerun over the left field fence. They then put together an offensive attack on two outs to score two runs in top of the fifth.
The Lady Tigers’ district game with Tupelo was postponed yesterday and was rescheduled for Wednesday, April 19 with a varsity only game at 5 p.m.
