A Woodruff Road resident reported that Panola County Sheriff Deputies used excessive force while attempting to arrest her son, Jarmarvis Banks, for a third offense of domestic violence Wednesday, March 23 just after midnight, according to reports.
Raynell Wright, mother of Banks, reported to Captain Willie Harris, she opened the door and forgot to set the alarm and shut the door on the deputies to reset the alarm, according to the report.
Wright made a statement to News Channel 3, “Go get your warrant and come back!” Wright reported the deputies then swung open the door and tased her son. According to Panola County Sheriff Dennis Darby, the suspect was attempting to get away, deputies followed Banks inside the home and used necessary force to make the arrest. Wright claims deputies used the taser on her son and pointed the tasers at her five grandchildren.
“I know my officers well enough. They’re not going to abuse anybody, but my officers aren’t going to be abused either,” said Sheriff Darby in the Memphis news report.
Julius Harris, head of the Panola County NAACP, stated an investigation would be conducted looking into the allegations against the deputies.
“We’ll be willing to work along with him or anybody else. We’ve always cooperated,” said Sheriff Darby.
Banks has a long list of arrests according to The Panolian files. Some of the charges included trespassing, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct in 2014, a malicious mischief charge that was dropped by an affiant who failed to appear to testify in 2015, a stalking charge in 2015, and trespassing charge in 2016.
