Sheriff’s reports include finding of remains sought since October

Lieutenant Chuck Tucker responded to Long Creek Bridge on Benson Road in reference to a human skull being found just after 11 a.m. on February 25. (An earlier news story recorded this incident in the March 3 edition also at panolian.com.)
According to the report, the caller stated he noticed a green tarp in the woods near the road and got out to check it. The caller reported picking up the green bag, unzipping it and noticing the smell.
“I thought it may have been a rotten dog inside it from the smell,” stated the caller. After walking away from the bag the caller found what appeared to be a human skull.
Lieutenant Tucker notified officials of the discovery. Major Barry Thompson believed the remains were a part of a Bartlett, Tenn. investigation where the body was believed to have been dumped in Panola County.
Bartlette Police Department was notified of the discovery and the crime scene was turned over to them.
February 24
• Brewer Road resident reported to Deputy Hunter Lawrence she arrived home at 8 p.m. and noticed a gold four door car parked next to her driveway.
According to the report, the resident stated her husbance went to check the house and noticed the front door open.
The resident reported seeing a blonde female take off in the vehicle. Nothing was reported missing from the residence.
• Ed Pratcher Road, Como resident reported he allowed the suspect to live at his rental property for two years rent free and stated the suspect broke the water system.
February 25
• Deputy Lawrence responded to Sarah Dickens Road where an individual reported her daughter threatened to commit suicide. The individual stated her daughter was outside standing in the middle of the road with her boyfriend crying and stating that no one loved or cared about her and attempted to cut her arm on the metal culvert, according to the report. MedStat responded and transported the suspect to the hospital.
February 26
• Deputy John Still spoke to a HWY 310 E, Sardis resident who reported her 10-year-old daughter came over for a visit and was taking a bath when she saw a bruise on her lower leg.
According to the report, the child stated her father’s girlfriend kicked her. The resident was advised to contact the Department of Human Services and report the incident. Deputy Still advised the resident to keep the child until Monday until the situation could be resolved.
• Martindale Rd., Courtland resident reported an individual came to her residenced and slung rocks everywhere upon leaving.
February 27
• Deputy Steven McLarty spoke to a Houston, Texas resident who reported letting her child come to Batesville to spend the summer with her father.
According to the report, the resident has attempted several time to pick up the nine-year-old girl but the father refuses. The resident reported there is no custody order through any court system and was advised to contact an attorney to assist in getting child custody.
• Forrest Dr., Sardis resident reported to Captain Willie Harris his ex-wife filed a false report on his girlfriend stating she kicked his daughter.
According to the report, the resident stated the father of his ex-wife told his daughter to tell the police that the resident’s girlfriend kicked and hit the resident’s daughter.
February 28
• Captain Harris spoke to a Jolly James Road resident who reported finding his dog in a ditch dead. According to the report, the resident noticed some four-wheeler tire tracks leading from the ditch to a neighboring residence. The resident when to speak to the neighbor who stated he was down by the ditch throwing away a Spruce tree.
• Henry Drive, Courtland resident reported to Deputy Lawrence she arrived home at 4:45 p.m. and noticed her belonging inside her residence had been tampered with.
According to the report, there were no signs of forced entry but a window was opened and the window screen was laying outside on the ground. The resident advised her computer was the only thing missing.
• Jimmy Jones, Como resident reported to Deputy McLarty a man called her and threatened the life of her and her children.
March 2
• Deputy John Still responded to a burglary on Norwood Rd., Batesville, where the resident reported the suspect(s) entered his shop by cutting the lock with bolt cutters and removed two chainsaws, Delton .223 semi-automatic assault rifle and approximately 1300 rounds of ammumnition. The incident is under further investigation.

• February 24, car accident occured on Compress Road. An injury was reported.
• February 25, car hit a deer on Old Panola Road.
• February 26, Hit and run occured at Walton Chapel Church.
• February 27, car hit a deer on Ballentine Road.
• March 1, car accident occured near Crowder City Hall.
