Five shoplifting cases on city court docket

Judge Bill McKenzie referred two cases to the grand jury during Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday.
Brandon Johnson, 1708 Shiloh Rd., Batesville, bonded out prior to court for felony possession of controlled substance (two counts), simple possesssion of marijuana and improper equipment. His case was bound over to the grand jury.
Alicia Presley, 304 Howard Rd., Enid, was granted a bond reduction after requesting and referred to the grand jury for felony fleeing, shoplifting, driving while license suspended and reckless driving. She also had old fines of $760 due since November 2014.
Jonathan A. McDonald, 211 Tubbs Rd., Batesville, paid a fine of $417 in full prior to court for trespassing.
Jonathan A. Griffin, 65 Fifth St., Crowder, had a trial set after entering a not guilty plea to trespassing at Subway. He had a third trespassing charge pending.
Ladeja E. Smallie, 322-A Sherwood, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to disorderly conduct. A trial was set for January 18.
Jarmarkus D. Smallie, 1683-A Shiloh Rd., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to disturbing the peace. He was fined $328.
Antonio L. Thompson, 1010 114th St., Amory, failed to appear to answer charges for simple assault. Fox Bonding was notified.
Janice Williams, 8322 Hwy. 35 South, Batesville, had a trial set for January 25 for DUI-second (refusal), no driver’s license, child endangerment, no proof of insurance and old fines of $561 due since May 2016.
Eva Jean McDermott, 141 Spruce St., Oakland, failed to appear to answer charges for shoplifting. Al Williams Bonding was notified.
Justin Scott, 4921 Central Academy Rd., Sardis, failed to appear to answer charges for shoplifting.
Alicia N. Kellum, 2325 Vasser Rd., Pope, failed to appear to answer charges for shoplifting from Burkes. Fox Bonding was notified.
William E. Polk, 20 Busby, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting tools worth $125.93 on December 5. He was fined $1,146.
Edward Oliver, 1166 Lawrence Bros., Batesville, failed to appear to answer charges for contempt of court-old fines of $328 due since February 2015.
Cases set for trial
Janine Pride, 209 Claude St., Batesville, had a speeding charge dismissed.
Nikita Holmes, 329 East St., Batesville, was found guilty of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after a short trial.
Officer Ruby Myers testified they found a child playing on the railroad tracks after the Scare on the Square October 29.
Myers received statements from the child’s grandmother and mother stating the child was last seen with his aunt, Holmes.
After speaking with the scared child, they were able to contact his first grade teacher who was able to help them find his family members.
Holmes told the judge she was trying to get back to work and the last she saw the child and his sibling was with her sister.
The judge explained little people depend on us adults and it gives us more responsibility.
She was not fined but found guilty.
Edward A. Reiman, 100 Suratt Circle, Water Valley, was fined $1,146 for shoplifting from Piggly Wiggly.
