Shipping company worker referred to grand jury for embezzlement

Although the defendant had initially confessed to police, in Municipal Court Wednesday he told Judge Bill McKenzie that marijuana found in a car in which he was a passenger did not belong to him.
After a short trial, the judge found Robert Anderson, 8437 Pope-Water Valley Rd., Pope, guilty of simple possession of marijuana.
Officer Ruby Myers testified she and other officers were checking driver’s licenses at a check point on August 6 about 10:43 p.m.
Myers said she smelled marijuana coming from the white Kia with a female driver. She said Anderson was passed out in the passenger seat and there was another person in the backseat.
Myers said after getting approval to search the vehicle, they found a marijuana joint under the passenger seat.
She testified Anderson confessed to the joint being his.
Anderson testified they had been in Hardy, Ark. and he was intoxicated and the only reason he admitted to the marijuana being his was because he didn’t want his wife, who was the driver, to go to jail.
“I knew we would all go to jail if someone didn’t admit to it being theirs and the owner was not going to admit,” Anderson said.
The judge ruled he was guilty stating, “Be careful. You want us to believe something on court day when you said something different on the day you were arrested.”
Anderson was fined $443.
Alexander Curry, 209 Martin St., Oxford, was found guilty of disorderly conduct-failure to comply and loud music.
Officer Ruby Myers, Justin Davis, Watson and Greg Jones testified they responded to a call from dispatch stating they were receiving complaints about loud music from 213 Pearson Street.
Officers entered video footage into evidence.
The judge did not impose a fine, pending Curry’s good behavior for 12 months.
Kameron Bradley, 2909 Caffey St., Hernando, was referred to the grand jury for felony embezzlement by taking two Verizon cell phones, three iPhones, a Lifeproof case, and other brand phones while working at UPS. His bond was $20,000.
Brondreeckus Clark, 117-H Lester St., Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for robbery.
He also had old fines of $1,250 due since January 2016.
He entered the city’s work program for 22 days in lieu of paying $1,250 in fines.
Dimitri Roberts, 105 Hughes Rd., Sledge, failed to appear to answer charges for shoplifting.
Janice F. Williams, 8322 Hwy. 35 South, Batesville, was given a report back date for December 14 for DUI-second-refusal, no driver’s license, child endangerment, no proof of insurance and old fines of $561 due since May 2016.
