Husband charged with painting bad words on car

Judge McKenzie explained to a defendant Wednesday that Batesville Municipal Court handled misdemeanor cases and his case would be referred to a higher court.
Michael Cooper, 3186 Seven Road, Batesville, was charged with felony malicious mischief on September 30, allegedly vandalizing a car owned by affiant Melissa Cooper.
“Are y’all married?” the judge asked.
Cooper told the judge they were in the process of getting a divorce.
The judge read the affidavit stating marks were on the hood, driver’s side and back of Melissa Cooper’s 2005 Hyundai with various bad words on the car.
The judge showed Cooper a photo of the car.
“I didn’t do that,” he said.
Cooper also requested a bond reduction from his original $2,500 saying, “I can’t work if I am in jail.”
His bond was reduced to $1,000 and the case was bound over to the grand jury.
Tony Wheatley Jr., 4214 Barnacre Rd., Sardis, failed to appear to answer charges for open container, no tag light and had old fines of $598 due since May 2016.
Maurice Milton, 222 Noble St., Batesville, failed to appear to answer charges for simple possession of marijuana, no tag and old fines of $375 due since July 2016.
Arthur Pollard, 7837 Curtis Rd., Batesville, entered guilty pleas for charges filed October 4 for simple possession of marijuana, driving while license suspended and improper equipment. He also had old fines of $762 due since October 2016.
Ben Hall, 111 Patton Lane, Batesville, failed to appear to answer charges filed by affiant Willie Miller who did appear in court.
Miller told the judge he did want to pursue the charges.
Hall also had old fines of $416 due since June 2016.
All Williams Bonding was notified. The judge told Pollard to have all of his fines paid by the end of November or serve 60 days in jail.
Temetric Williams, 352 Mary Woods, Como, entered a guilty plea to disorderly conduct-failure to comply on October 14.
He was given time served for the 13 days he was in jail awaiting trial.
Quentin Cox, 101 Everette St., Batesville, failed to appear to answer charges for disorderly conduct-failure to comply, failure to stop when officer signals, speeding, expired tag, no proof of insurance and old fines of $683 due since May 2016.
A warrant was issued for his arrest.
China White, 1475 Hadorn Rd., Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to simple assault, resisting arrest, abusive language to a police officer and previously failed to appear in court.
She entered a not guilty plea to the charges and a trial was set for November 30.
Lonnie M. Gilliam, 900 Fox Gate, Marks, entered guilty pleas to DUI, no driver’s license and no tag. He was given time served for the 22 days he served in jail and owes $212.
Quitman County also has a hold on Gilliam for outstanding warrants.
Wilburn Winters, 200 Park St., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to no driver’s license, no proof of insurance, improper equipment, no seat belt and old fines of $743 due since February 2014.
“All of these fines are due by the end of November or you will serve six months in jail,” the judge said.
Lashundra N. Taylor, 105-B Patton Lane, entered guilty pleas to contempt of court-old fines of $306 due since April 2014 and no driver’s license and no proof of insurance.
The judge told Taylor to have the fines paid in full by the end of November or serve six months in jail.
Wanda L. Jones, 1537 Crouch Rd., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to careless driving and driving while license suspended prior to court. She was fined $546.
Chanlor Hohensee, 101 Creekmore Blvd., Coldwater, entered a non adjudiction order for shoplifting from Walmart and was fined $1,146.
