ND to travel to take on Mustangs

By Will Dickins
North Delta travels to Strayhorn tonight after a tough loss last week versus Magnolia Heights.
Coach Brandon Ciaramitaro spoke about the improvements he saw and what needs to be done to win in the future.
Magnolia Heights went up three scores in the beginning of the second quarter which dug a big hole for the Green Wave.  They did come back, but it just was not enough.
“We definitely improved after film tremendously from game one to game two.  We looked like we got better each quarter,” Ciaramitaro said. “It was just one of those deals where we let them get up too early. In the second half, if we did some things right we would have had a better chance to win. I’m excited about the direction we are going.”
On to the next opponent, Strayhorn, who is 1-0 after beating Tunica Academy 41-8.
“The defense has to get better as a unit.  Guys were hitting but not tackling.  We have to be a disciplined and play assignment sound defense,” Ciaramitaro said. “We will need better tackling to stop an offense that comes at you in multiple formations. They usually are a power run oriented team but have improved on their quick passing game.  There is not much tape on the one game they found, as it was a blowout win.”
On defense, Strayhorn is aggressive, according to Ciaramitaro. They blitz a lot and their primary goal is stopping the run.
“Hopefully our pass threat keeps them on their heels rather than on their toes,” Ciaramitaro said.
On the other hand, Ciaramitaro wants the Green Wave’s pass game to open up running lanes or Strayhorn will pin their ears back and rush how they usually do.
“We hope the offensive linemen will pick up. We have challenged that group as well as the linebackers to have better games,” Ciaramitaro said “we need better effort on the offensive line and better tackling from our linebackers.”
The match is set. The game will be at 7 p.m. in Strayhorn and can be heard on 106.9 FM, Kool 107.
