 Nancy Jane Foshee Aven

 Nancy Jane Foshee Aven, 80, of Courtland, MS, passed away on April 7, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Batesville, MS.  She was born on September 8, 1935 in Greenwood, MS to Jimmie Mae Long Foshee and John William Foshee.  She was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking and taking care of family.  Mrs. Aven is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Aven Roberts (Mike) and  one son Gerald M. Aven, Jr. (Debbie) all of Courtland, MS; two sisters, Mary Henderson of Water Valley, MS and Ruby Kennedy of Jackson, MS; one brother, Freddie Foshee of Batesville, MS and 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald M. “Ted” Aven, Sr.; one son, Louis William Aven; her parents; two sisters, Margaret Dean and LaVera Dean; four brothers, Chester Harrell, Harry Harrell, Dewey Foshee and Joe Foshee.

 Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m.  on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Dickins Funeral Home.  Interment will be in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Batesville. Visitation will be on Saturday, from 1:30-3 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to Courtland United Methodist Church, PO Box 47, Courtland, MS  38620.

James Durley Harris

James Durley Harris, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 3, 2016 in Nashville, Tn.  Mr Harris was born on Feb 14, 1944 in Batesville.

Jim was a 1966 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and he served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as a rescue helicopter pilot.
After his military career, he went into the banking industry in Nashville, first at Commerce Union Bank and later went on to serve as President of First Tennessee Nashville.  He was also founder and CEO of two Community banks, Brentwood National Bank and Premiere Bank of Brentwood.  He was a dedicated community leader and volunteer in Nashville and Brentwood TN.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sandra L. Harris: son, Blake Harris (Alison): daughters, Jenelle Spicer (Bill), Leisha Nischan (Chris): grandchildren, Elaina Nischan, Lindsey Nischan, Sam Spicer, Sabrina Spicer, William Spicer, Leo Harris, Cameron Harris; sister, Judy Harris, and brother, Michael Harris (Debbie).
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Christ Presbyterian Church, 2323 Old Hickory Blvd, Nashville, TN with Pastors Todd Teller and David Filson officiating.  Visitation with the family will be held on Friday from 4-6 p.m. and on Saturday from 1-2 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Projects, 223 Rosa Parks Ave, Suite 301, Nashville,TN 37203.

Joel J. McAdams

Joel J. McAdams, 94 of Columbus, formerly of Sardis, went to be with his Lord Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Trinity Place. He arranged to have his body donated to the Body Donation Program at the University Of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.  Gunter & Peel Funeral Home has been entrusted with his services. Visitation will be Friday, April 8, 2016 from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Memorial service, with military honors, with Rev. Tommy Gillon officiating, in the chapel of Gunter & Peel Funeral Home.
 Mr. McAdams was born June 15, 1921 in Marshall, MO to the late Earl David and Lucille Wingfield McAdams. At the age of twelve, his family moved to Mountain View, MO, where he completed his education. He and his wife moved to Columbus eight years ago and became very active residents of Trinity Place. He represented the military in the Veterans Day Program at the Lowndes County courthouse in November, 2015.  
 Mr. McAdams was a World War II veteran, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific campaign in the Americal Division. During his service, he was awarded the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantry Badge.
 He married Virginia Hornbeak in Poplar Bluff, MO on February 16, 1951, and they enjoyed sixty five years of married life together. After twenty five years of employment, he retired from the United States Postal Service in Memphis, TN. Then he enjoyed traveling, woodworking, gardening, his church work and his family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, three sisters and twin great-grandsons.
 He is survived by his wife Virginia H. McAdams of Columbus, his daughters and sons-in-law Diana and Bill Pruett of Columbus and Rebecca and Joe Blount of Arlington, VA and his son and daughter-in-law Joel and Phyllis McAdams, II of Morristown, TN. He is also survived by five grandchildren Drew Pruett (Taylor) of Madison, MS; David Blount and Kevin Blount, both of Arlington, VA; Milly Tunnell (Daniel) of Johnston City, TN and Susie Ramsey (Doug) of Morristown, TN and four great-grandchildren Emmy and Patrick Pruett and Benjamin and Annabel Tunnell.

Bobby Joe Bobo

Bobby Joe Bobo, 58, died March 20.
Services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Pleasant Green Church in Sardis. Pastor Ronnie Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Green Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Bobo, born Feb. 9, 1958, in Sardis, to John C. Bobo and Mae Ethel Lark, attended North Panola School District and was a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sardis.

Ada Mae Hamilton Jones

Ada Mae Hamilton Jones, 94, died Wednesday,  March 30, 2016, at her residence.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Antioch M.B. Church in Batesville. Pastor Reginald Reed will officiate. Burial will be held in Batesville Cemetery. Vistitation will be held today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and also Saturday from 10 a.m. – 11a.m. at Antioch Church.
Jones, born July 19, 1921, in Panola County, to Major “Pig” Hamilton and Elmyra Brooks Hamilton, worked for the Panola public school system and was a homemaker. She was also a member of Antioch M.B. Church.
