Judge sends seven cases to grand jury in municipal court session

Judge Bill McKenzie referred seven cases to the grand jury during Batesville Municipal Court held Wednesday.
Houston D. Burdette, 4917 Curtis Rd., Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for felony possession of controlled substance, possession of marijuana in a vehicle, driving while license suspended and improper equipment. Burdette paid his old fines of $712.75 in full prior to court.
Clauzel Moore, 218 Broadway, Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for burglary and grand larceny. His bond was $2,500.
Deon Pryor, 218 Broadway, Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for burglary and grand larceny for allegedly taking a gun safe with six guns and three knives worth over $1,000 from 218 Broadway Street.
No bond was set.
Ashley Mathews, 957 Woodruff Rd., Batesville, had a bond set for $2,500 for possession of controlled substance, simple possession of controlled substance, possession of marijuana in a vehicle and no seatbelt.
Dameon C. Sanford, 207 Gordon, Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for felony possession of controlled substance with intent, felony firearm enhancement, open container and expired tag.
Asia Draper, 103 Sunrise Cove, Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for felony malicious mischief charges. Her bond was $1,500.
Jasmine Moore, 211 Tubbs Rd., Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for malicious mischief charges.
Marvis J. Madison, 114 Martinez, Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for charges of felony possession of controlled substance, improper equipment and no driver’s license.
Michael L. Poole, 198 Edward Smith, Batesville, was charged with open container and had old fines of $911 due since December 2015. The judge told him to have his fines paid in full by April 22 or serve six months in jail.
Andrej Kuvers Jr., 233 Vick St., entered a guilty plea to public drunk. He was fined $225.
Kerrance K. Patterson, 808 Goodman, Crenshaw, entered a guilty plea to possession of marijuana and had old fines of $343 due since October 2015. He was told to have the fines paid by April 22 or serve time in jail.
Xavier G. Hines, 445 Sanders Rd., Sardis, entered a guilty plea to possession of marijuana and had old fines of $708 due since September 2015. Total fines $1,151 are due by April 22 or 90 days in jail.
Taroski Green, 103 Field St., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to simple possession of marijuana on March 2. He was fined $443.
Keith Holmes, 230 Dunson Ave., Crowder, failed to appear to answer to simple possession of marijuana and old fines of $1,992.50 due since October 2011.
John R. Jones, 734 Oakdale Rd., Coldwater, had a malicious mischief charge dismissed after the affiant, Ondra Twilley failed to appear to prosecute.
He entered a guilty plea to disorderly conduct-failure to comply.
He served 16 days in jail awaiting trial.
“No one would come bond you out?” the judge asked.
“I believe 16 days is ample punishment. Time serve,” McKenzie ruled.
Derrick Pride, 6084 Curtis Rd., Batesville, failed to appear to answer disorderly conduct-failure to comply charges. Alright Bonding was notified.
Tammy S. Cox, 210 Oak Ave., Como, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting from Walmart.
She was represented by Attorney Joe Watson.
“She has two small children. That’s my concern,” the attorney said when discussing the fine.
“Are you teaching your children to steal?” the judge asked Cox.
“No sir,” she replied.
“Whose costumes where these you were stealing?” the judge asked.
“That was for my four-year old’s Halloween,” she replied.
“Okay so you are teaching them to steal,” the judge replied.
She was fined $1,146.
