Ruth Whitsitt Greenland
Ruth Whitsitt Greenland, age 95, passed away Friday, February 26, 2016, at Senatobia Convalescent Center in Senatobia, MS. Ms. Greenland is the widow of Fred H. “Ted” Greenland, Sr.
Services were held Monday, February 29, 2016 at Coldwater First Baptist Church with committal services at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, TN. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Ms. Greenland was born November 26, 1920 in Memphis, TN to the late Howard A. and Lovie Harris Whitsitt. She was a homemaker and member of the Coldwater First Baptist Church in Coldwater, MS.
Ms. Greenland is survived by her daughter, Lena Leotta Carpenter of Coldwater, MS; half-brother, David Whitsitt, Decaturville, TN; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ms. Greenland was preceded in death by her son, Fred H. Greenland, Jr.
William Harold Polk
William Harold Polk, 88, of Batesville, MS, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at his home in Batesville.
Mr. Polk was born on August 19, 1927 in Mt. Olive, MS to the late Hazel Brinson Polk and Robert Eugene Polk. He was a Certified Public Accountant and founder of the William H. Polk and Company accounting firm where he worked for more than fifty years. He was appointed by the governor to the MS State Board of Public Accountancy and served as board president for four years. Throughout his lifetime he was devoted to hard work and to the clients he served. He was a member and former deacon of First Baptist Church in Batesville, MS. Mr. Polk was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather who left his mark on all who knew him. He had a rare combination of intelligence, integrity, and quiet dignity.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years Everette Jean Wade Polk of Batesville, MS; three daughters, Brooke Polk Johnson (Will) of Folly Beach, SC, Gwen Polk Aldridge (Mickey) of Batesville, MS, and Beth Polk Thomas (Tripp) of Batesville, MS; one sister, Dixie Duckworth of Mt. Olive, MS; nine grandchildren, Emily Aldridge Hahn (Chris), Lent Ervin Thomas, IV (Melanie), Donald Caffey Woods, Jr., William Polk Thomas (Rebecca), Jonathan Wade Aldridge (Whitney), Holly Thomas Young (Tice), Jeremy Michael Aldridge (Megan), Lindsay Thomas Wynne (Scott), and Anna Carey Aldridge; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Eugene Polk and Rex Polk.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Batesville, MS, with Dr. Tommy Snyder officiating. Interment followed in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 104 Panola Avenue, Batesville, MS 38606 ; to The Baptist Children’s Village, P. O. Danny S. Young
Danny S. Young, 71, of Hernando, MS passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – DeSoto. He was born on August 31, 1944 in the Pleasant Grove Community of Panola County, to Jewel E. Sanford Young and Charlie Ray Young.
A retired electrician, he was member of Peach Creek Baptist Church and was also a Mason. He loved his family and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Young is survived by two sons, Michael Young and Danny S. Young, Jr.; one sister, Diane Tashie; and two brothers, Charles D. Young and Milton R. Young. He was preceded in death by his parents.
