Jeremy Tyler Appleton

POPE–Jeremy Tyler Appleton, 20,  died Monday, September 21, 2015 near Pope. He was the son of Macel Jr. and Trina Still Appleton of Pope.

Funeral services were held Thursday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Derrick Simmons and Rev. Brad Burnett officiated. Interment was in Good Hope Cemetery.

Born February 20, 1995 in Oxford, he graduated from South Panola High School in 2013. He was enrolled at Northwest Community College in the HVAC Program. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed riding 4-wheelers. He was a member of  Good Hope Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Cody Appleton, of Batesville; his grandparents, Bill and Ann Still of Pope and Macel Appleton Sr. of Sardis.

Richard Ballard

COMO–Richard Ballard, 84, died August 31, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Mr. Ballard served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and had worked as supervisor of housekeeping for the Veterans Hospital in Marion, Ind.

Rogers Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. No services are planned.

Mr. Ballard was the widower of Minnie Jane Ballard.

He is survived by his daughters Patricia Christian of Marion, Ind., and Sandra Davis of Indianapolis.

Davis Brown Jr.

BATESVILLE–Davis Brown Jr., 77, died September 20, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.

Funeral services will be today at noon at New Shelby M.B. Church in Collierville, Tenn., with the Rev. Ricky Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Batesville Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Born in Collierville April 23, 1938 to the late Davis Brown and Geneva McLemore Brown, he was a car salesman and a member of Deliverance Tabernacle Pentecostal Church. He served as a church usher, a mentor of Young Men on a Mission, Inc., and belonged to the Collierville Civic Club.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Brown of Batesville; his mother, Geneva Cooper of Collierville; his son, Darryl Brown of Los Angeles; his daughters Juanita Brown, LeAndre Brown, Denise Johnson, Tracy Renwrick and Katherine Black. all of Los Angeles; his sister, Gennie Brown Hooker of Collierville; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Ardith Byrd

Ardith Jean Byrd, 50, died Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Coleman Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.

Born in Fort Knox, Ken., to Maxine Perkins of Tillatoba and the late Jefferson Pruett, Byrd had lived in the Batesville area for many years. She was a homemaker. 

Survivors include her husband, Richard Byrd of Batesville; two daughters, Rachel Byrd and Jennifer Johnson both of Batesville; one son, Jeremy Byrd of Courtland; her mother, Maxine Perkins of Tillatoba; two sisters, Debbie McFadden of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Karen Chambers of Tillatoba; six grandchildren, Abbiegail and Isabella Johnson, Nicolas, Phillip and Charles Byrd and Kenneth Smith all of Batesville.

Reginal Draper

SARDIS–Reginal Draper, 34, died in an accident Sunday, September 21, 2015. Funeral services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis. Pastor Walter Newsom will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10-5 at Cooley’s.

Born December 27, 1980 in Sardis, he was the son of Ronnie H. Draper and Patricia Draper of Sardis.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son, Xtavious Young of Texas; his daughters Labrisha Hamilton and Alexus Sanford of Sardis; his brother, Harold Draper of Sardis; and sisters Shareia Draper and Tameika Thomas, both of Sardis.

Mary Smith Poole

OXFORD–Mary Gertrude Smith Poole, 84, died September 21, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. She was the widow of James Edward Poole.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

Mrs. Poole was born in Tipton County, Tenn. to the late Nobel Bryant Smith and Lonie McCullough Smith.

She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Chouamon of Pearl and Donna Terry Palmer of Enid; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Susie Lambert

Clara Sue “Susie” Shrum Lambert, 80, of Hot Springs, Ark. peacefully passed August 31, 2015, from Alzhiemers.  

An Arkansas farm girl at heart, from Marked Tree, she eclipsed expectations of achievement, in her lifetime, for a woman from her generation.  She was known to all as “Susie” and to her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids as “Captain Funny.” (She loved that).  She was an accomplished writer/photo journalist in Arkansas, at the Marked Tree Tribune, and a successful commercial pilot and flight instructor of her own flight school in Batesville, Mississippi.  Also, she was the first woman to be awarded Flight Instructor of the Year in Mississippi history.  

A longtime resident of Hot Springs, Arkansas, she flew commercially for Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America and retired on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs.

She is preceded in death by her youngest child, son, Sid Lambert, and her parents, Norman and Sue Shrum of Marked Tree.

Susie is survived by her daughters Sandi McCraine, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and G. Scott Crossland of Hot Springs, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Claire McCraine Minnie, Seth McCraine, Casey McCraine and Jared Crossland; nine great-grandchildren, and all her many beloved family and friends.  

Truly a spirit, rare and lovely soul; we will miss her…

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home in Hot Springs, Arkansas; 155 Section Line Rd.  All are welcome…
