Annie Marie Baldwin
COMO – Annie Marie Baldwin, 54, died Saturday, March 7, 2015, in Memphis.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Apostalic Lighthouse of Wyatt, 139 Wyatt Loop, Senatobia. Rodgers Funeral Home has charge.

Baldwin was a homemaker.

Survivors include: her parents, Joann Middleton and Gordon Hataway, both of Coldwater; one daughter, Dixie Burke of Olive Branch; four sons, Jimmy Baldwin of Coldwater, Terry Baldwin and Keith Baldwin, both of Como and Lance Baldwin of Longtown; two sisters, Sara Busby of Independence and Rita Sharp of Ashland; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mary Lee Rhodes Carter
SARDIS – Mary Lee Rhodes Carter, 86, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at her daugher’s home.

Services will be held Monday, March 23 at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home in Sardis at 2 p.m. with Mr. Hal Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home.

Carter, born March 6, 1929, in Como, to the late Leland B. Rhodes and Mary Still Rhodes, was a member of Sardis Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She had been vice president of the Bank of Sardis for 47 years, also working with the Heflin House of Sardis and was a member of the Woman’s Club.

Survivors include: her daughter, Lee Carter Hitchcock (Brian) of Sardis; two grandchilden, Ryne Hitchcock and Mary Farrell Hitchcock, both of Sardis.

Memorials may be made to Sardis Baptist Church, 108 West Lee Street, Sardis, 38666.

Pearly Mae McKinney Cole
SARDIS–Pearly Mae Cole, 74, died Friday, February 27, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Services were held Saturday at New Rock Hill M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Charles R. Becton officiated.Burial was be in Old Rock Hill Cemetery in Sardis.

Cole, born Jan. 11, 1941, in Sardis, to the late Green McKinney and Mary Parker McKinney, was a caregiver and member of New Rock Hill M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by one son, Trammell McKinney Gates.

Survivors include: her husband, Roosevelt Cole of Batesville; two daughters, LaKeitha Cole and Shence Cole, both of Sardis; one son, Darrell Hughery of Sardis; four brothers, Willie Allen McKinney (Mary Pearl), Joe McKinney (Doris) and Lawrence McKinney (Ethel Mae), all of Sardis; Sam McKinney  (Lula) of St. George, S.C.; sister-in-law, Bernice McKinney of Batesville and a host of nieces and nephews.

Charles L. Goodwin
BATESVILLE––Charles L. Goodwin, 87, formerly of Greenville, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Boone Funeral Home in Greenville.

Visitation is one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Boone Funeral Home has charge.

Goodwin was born in Noxubee County, September 21, 1927, attended and graduated school in Macon. In 1945 he joined the U. S. Navy and was stationed in San Deigo, Calif. and was honorably discharged in 1948.  He married Sally Permenter in 1949 and in 1993 he married Jacqueline Hale Hunter, both who predeceased him.

He worked at U.S. Aximinster, formerly Greenville Mills, for 42 years, retiring in 1996. He lived with his daughter in Batesville for the last 15 years. 

He was preceded in death by a son, Charles L. Goodwin Jr.

Survivors include: one daughter Judith Goodwin Russell; four grandchildren, Eric Robertson, Amy Gordon, Vincent Robertson and Jason Robertson; and five great-grandchildren, Chase Robertson, Aaron McIngvale, Molly McIngvale, Drew Gordon and Olivia Morrison.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Esther Everline Hanks
GRENADA–Esther Everline Samuels Hanks, 87, died Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Grace Health and Rehab of Grenada. She is the widow of James Wesley Hanks.

Services were held Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Hal Johnson officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Hanks, born September 11, 1927, to the late Frank Luther Samuels and Lenora Osborne Hanks in Panola County. She was a member of Cold Springs Methodist Church and attended the Courtland Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Sue Thornton.

Survivors include: one daughter Loretta Hanks Smith of Oakland; two sons William Luther Hanks of Vicksburg and Jimmy Hanks of Batesville, one sister; Mary Simmons of Olive Branch; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Jacky D. Hamblin
BRUCE – Jacky Hamblin, 56, died Monday, March 9, 2015 at his residence.
The family will hold a private ceremony at a later date.
He was born May 3, 1958 to the late Claxton Hamblin and Hazel Hill Hamblin
He is survived by one niece, Ann Chunn, of Batesville.

Pauline F. Key
BATESVILLE – Pauline F. Key, 73, died Friday, March 6, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Batesville Junior High. Pastor Alvin Bailey will officiate. Visitation will be held today from noon – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Burial will be in Shiloh M.B. Church Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Key, born March 21, 1941, in Courtland, to the late Dallas and Louise Avant Market, was a retired factor worker and member of New Life M.B. Church in Batesville.
Survivors include: five sons, James Perry Fletcher, Willie Tyrone Key, Kendrick Key and Maurice Market, all of Batesville and James Key Jr. of Milwaukee; nine daughters, Dwelber Fletcher, Dorothy Sanford, Bonnie Fletcher, Louise Key, Sandra Kay Roberts, Debra Market, Lakecia Market and Diane Strong, all of Batesville and Monique Farmer of Sardis; eight brothers, Larry Market of Coldwater, Billy Ray Market of Memphis, James Earl Market and Lee Market, both of Courtland, Steve Market and Luther Taylor, both of Lambert, Earl Market Jr. of Oxford and Robert Lee Market of Batesville; three sisters, Mary Pough of Batesville, Martha Market of Courtland and Emma Benson of Pope; 54 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren.

Debbie J. Lang
SARDIS–Debbie J. Lang, 59, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will held at Sardis Lake Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening at Wells Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m.

Lang was born December 5, 1955 to the late Bert Ferguson and Mattie Morgan Ferguson in Marvell, Arkansas.

Survivors include: her husband Pete Lang of Sardis; seven daughters Holly Ford and Raven Lang of Batesville, Debbie Moore, Lynn Billingsley, Carolyn Stauddy, and Brandy Lang, all of Ark., Mary Lang of Mo.; one son Harvey Lang of Ridgeland, Vt., two sisters, Patty Smith and Della Long, both of Ark., six brothers, Lee Ferguson of Texas, Mac Ferguson of S. C., Hershel and Jerry Ferguson, both of Ark., Bo Ferguson and Pete Ferguson, both of W. Va.; 26 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Miles C. Mitchell
Mr. Miles C. Mitchell died Thursday, March 12, 2015.

Frances “Lorene” Moore Music
Frances “Lorene” Moore Music, 94, died Thursday, March 12, 2015.

Born, Nov. 11, 1920, she was member Terza Methodist Church.

Services are incomplete at this time. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, WC Moore and one son, William L. Moore.

Survivors include, her husband, Walter E. Music of Batesville: Patricia Ledbetter Massey of Walnut Ridge, Ark., WC “Sonny” Moore Jr. of Batesville, Tommy L. Moore of Batesville, Larry Dale Moore of Belden, Ms and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Terza Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Tishie Cuebell Morgan
CROWDER––Tishie Cuebell Morgan, 95, died March 5, 2015.

Services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Swan Lake Baptist Association Central Building, 93 Willie Rhodes Rd., Jonestown. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m until service time.  Visitation will also be held Friday from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at New Bethel M.B. Church in Crowder. Pastor Eric Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Crowder Cemetery. Delta Burial in Marks has charge.

Morgan, born May 25, 1919, in Lafayette County, to the late Earnest and Mattie Carothers, received her education in a one room schoolhouse. She was a member of South Hopewell Church in Lafayette and was baptized in a creek by Pastor Andrew Booker.  After her marriage to Emmett Morgan in 1936, she became a member of Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church. She moved and became a member of New Bethel M.B. Church in Crowder where she served as an adult Sunday school teacher, Church Mother and Dr. Watts choir member. She served as church clerk for 54 years. She was active with the PTA, was a domestic worker and homemaker.

Survivors include: three daughters, Julian White of Memphis, Laura Wilkins of Jonestown and Eva Gilmore; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Geneva Benner Smith
BATESVILLE––Geneva Benner Smith, 70, died Monday, March 9, 2015, at Golden Living Center.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Louis Wilson Sr. will officiate. Visitation will be held today from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary, who has charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Springhill Asa Church Cemetery in Courtland.
Smith, born June 30, 1944, in Batesville, to the late Dan Benner and Minnie Webster Benner, was a member of Mt. Olivet Church in Batesville.
Survivors include: one daughter, Doris Hill of Memphis; one brother, Willie Ed Benner of Memphis; five sisters, Bernell Stephens, Icey Rine Anderson and Emma Steen, all of Memphis, Bernice Money of Batesville and Dorothy Milton of Milwaukee; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Juanita Webb
SARDIS––Juanita Webb, 72, died Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Enon M.B. Church in Batesville. Pastor Robert Vaughn will officiate. Burial will be in New Enon Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Eddie Robinson Funeral Home in Batesville, who has charge of arrangements and Saturday from 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. at New Enon M.B. Church in Batesville.
Webb, born Dec. 12, 1943, in Oxford, to Clarence Buford of Alton, Ill., and the late Opal Burney, was a homemaker and member of New Enon M.B. Church.
Survivors, along with her father, include: her husband, David Webb of Sardis; three daughters, Arlene Ferrell of Batesville, Brenda Webb and Kristy Webb, both of Sardis; two sons, David E. Webb of Sardis and Mark Webb of Oxford; one sister, Clara B. Wilson of Alton; two step-sisters, Allie Terrell and Sandra Rebel, both of Alton; three brothers, Roy Buford, Clarence Buford, both of Alton and Rev. Johnny Buford of Collinsville, Ill.; three step-brothers, Vernon Mitchell of Alton, Andrew Brassell and Howard Brassell of Oxford; two step-sisters, Bernice Stinson of St. Louis and Ora Campbell of Oxford; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

John Joseph West Sr.
SARDIS – John Joseph “Joe” West Sr., 86, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sardis United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 12:30p.m. until service. Ray Nowell Funeral Home has charge.
He was born in Sardis, on November 29, 1928 to Jewel D. West and Nolan F. West. He graduated from Sardis High School and attended Ole Miss.  He was a farmer, owner and operator of Sardis Gin Company and a member of Sardis United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and sang and directed the choir
Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Wrennie Veazey West of Sardis; one daughter, Vicki West Clark (Harper) of Palm City, Fla.; three sons, Rusty West (Pam) of Athens, Ala., Jay West and Quinn West, both of Sardis; and eight grandchildren, Jackson, Blair, Gray, Tori, Elizabeth, Catie, Johnathan and Wrennie.
