Investigators work ‘every day’ for answer to murder

By Rupert Howell
Panola County Coroner Gracie Grant-Gullege confirmed last week that “provisional” autopsy results for Jessica Chambers have been completed but that information has yet to be made public.
She explained that the provisional autopsy includes basic information needed to determine cause of death but noted more in-depth analysis can be involved.

That word came after District Attorney John Champion announced last Monday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has added $25,000 to the reward being offered for information concerning the Chambers murder, bringing the total to $43,000.

Chambers died from injuries on December 6 when she was found still alive next to her burning car with burns over 98 percent of her body. She died later in a Memphis trauma hospital.

News of her plight has gone nationwide but no suspect has been arrested almost six weeks after the incident even though federal and state agencies have joined the Panola County Sheriff’s Department and other local agencies in the investigation.

The District Attorney assured last week that investigators from all participating agencies continue to work “every day” on the case.

Anyone with information concerning the incident should call Crime Stoppers at (800)729-2169 or Panola County Sheriff’s Department at (662) 563-6230.
