Defendants referred to Grand Jury

Judge Bill McKenzie referred three cases to a higher court during Batesville Municipal Court held Wednesday.

Haley Potts and James Mayer, 213 Court St., Batesville, were bound over to the grand jury for child abuse, simple possession of controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.
Mayer also has charges of aggravted domestic violence.

Eddie J. Jackson, 8221-A Curtis Rd., Batesville, bonded out of jail prior to court and was referred to the grand jury for burglary, grand larceny and disorderly conduct-failure to comply.
A preliminary hearing for Andricus L. Draper, 210 Arizona St., Batesville, (although court dockets list 210 Arizona St., Batesville, as Draper’s address, a resident said he has not lived there in seven years), had a preliminary hearing set for next Wednesday for charges of armed robbery and malicious mischief.

Lesia Tunson, 4 Courtney Village, Courtland, entered a guilty plea to stealing bacon from Sav-A-Lot and entered the city’s work program for 20 days in lieu of paying the scheduled fine of $1,131.

Angela W. Sanford, 1050-A Wells Ext., Courtland, was fined $2,180.25 for possession of paraphernalia, driving while license suspended and old fines that have been due since September 2012.

The judge told her to have the fines paid in full by October 31 or serve 90 days in jail.
Walter Kimble, 7 East Cypress St., Charleston, failed to appear to answer an open container charge.

William Egbert, 106 Dogwood Heights, Batesville, paid a fine of $225 in full prior to court for public drunk.

Charles Woodall, 371 Grandview St., Memphis, had a case for simple possession of controlled substance and careless driving continued. He is being represented by Attorney Tom Womble.
Derek Carlisle, 201 Latitia St., Batesville, had a trial set for December 17 for DUI, open container, no driver’s license and driving without lights. He is represented by Attorney David Walker.

Demetrice Lester, no address given, had old fines of $1,131 due since June 2014. He paid the fines in full after court and had new fines of $605 for no proof of insurance due in 30 days.

Cases set for trial
Ricky Lee Darby, 105 Tubbs Rd., Courtland, had a domestic violence-simple assault case continued until next Wednesday.

During a case set for trial Stephen Hand, 207 Eureka St., Batesville, and Melissa J. Babinski, 207 Eureka St., Batesville, both had charges for domestic violence-simple assault amended to disorderly conduct after a short trial.

Both defendants told the judge they now live in a different residences.

They were fined $200 each.
