Shoplifting cases dominated the Batesville Municipal Court docket Wednesday.

Justin Armstead, 5915 Eureka Road, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to shoplifting box speakers, headlights, and a box of speaker wires from Walmart worth $144.71.

Armstead told the judge his 14-year-old cousin stole the items and put them in his bag on June 29.

“How can someone put that much stuff in your bag and you not notice?” Judge Bill McKenzie asked.  A trial was set for August 6.

Quincy Harris, Lester Street Apt. B, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting from Walmart and false information to a police officer on July 1. He entered the city work program for 31 days in lieu of paying $1763.

Sacha Ragland, 10949 Hwy 32 East, Water Valley, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting clothing worth $45.96 on July 3 from Citi Trend.

She was fined $1,131.

“It does not profit you to steal,” the judge said.

Jennifer Costilow, 515 204 Road, Oakland, failed to appear to answer a shoplifting charge. Alright Bonding company was notified.

Brandy Chrestman, 70 County Road 13, Water Valley, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting on July 4 from Walmart worth $172.24. She was fined $1,131.

Tony Wheatley, 4124 Barnacre Road, Sardis, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting video games worth $59.88 on June 19 from Walmart.

He entered the city’s work release program for 20 days in lieu of paying $1,131.

Patricia Walters, 4786 Center Road, Sardis, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting from Walmart worth $81.68.

Walters told the judge, “I did wrong. I won’t ever do it again.”

She was fined $1,131.

Other charges
Auquniha Brown, 1748 John Branch Rd., Batesville, had a telephone harassment case continued. She was also fined $986 for no proof of insurance and driving while license suspended.

Shakiffany Powell, 203 Vaughn Street, Batesville, had a malicious mischief charge dismissed after affiant Shakel McGhee failed to appear to prosecute.

Damon Andrews, 107 MLK Apt. 4 D, Batesville, had a domestic violence simple assault charge dismissed after affiant Tasha Andrews failed to appear to prosecute. He also entered the city’s work release program for 19 days in lieu of paying fines of $1060.

Jimmy James Fultz, 225 Railroad St., Sumner, had a trial set for August 6 for false pretense- misdemeanor.

Howard Harris, 124 Field Street, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to public drunk on July 4 at Kangaroo Express. He was fined $212.

Brandon Johnson, 1708 Shiloh Road, Courtland, entered a guilty plea to disorderly conduct by interfering with a business, public drunk, and public profanity at Jiffy No. 2 on July 5. He was fined $739.

Levi McKinney, 120 Patterson Street, Batesvillle, had malicious mischief charges dismissed after affiant Carolyn Stokes failed to appear.

DUI
Marvin C. Vaughn, 201 Claude Street, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to DUI, expired driver’s license, and loud music on June 27. He was fined $1,247.

Michael Brassell, 905 Bennett Street, Columbia, was fined $2,047 for DUI-2, no proof of insurance, and careless driving on July 5. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail with credit for days already served awaiting trial.

Gregory Webster, 133 Sherwood Dr., Courtland, entered a guilty plea to DUI and no driver’s license on July 6. He entered the CWP for 19 days in lieu of paying $1,085.
James Overstreet, 218 Pollard Street, Batesville, failed to appear to answer a DUI charge. Fox Bonding was notified.

Possession
Joshua Goodnight, 23130 Highway 51, Sardis, entered a guilty plea to simple possession of controlled substance (Xanax) and shoplifting two 32 inch flat screen TVs from Walmart on June 27. He was fined $1,585.

Monte Davis, 278 Love Ave., Crowder was fined $5,944 possession of controlled substance misdemeanor, and careless driving on July 4. He had a no proof of insurance charge dismissed after he proved to the judge he had insurance when the ticket was issued.

Qwentorious Johnson, 600 West St., Crenshaw, was referred to the grand jury for felony possession of controlled substance and disorderly conduct.

Assault
Patricia Burdette, 107 MLK apartment 7 D, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to simple assault by hitting affiant Devante Dunlap on June 30 with a baseball bat.

She was fined $313 along with restitution for Dunlap’s hospital bills.

Danny Robinson, 219 Perkins Lane, Batesville, had a domestic violence simple assault case continued.

Jeffery Stiles, 118 Dickey Dr., Batesville, was found guilty of simple assault against Jennifer Johnson.

Tracy Barksdale, 1732 Terza, Sardis was fined $381 for driving while license suspended.
