Lee Andrew Blackburn

POPE – Lee Andrew Blackburn, 73 died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, North Mississippi.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 16, at noon at the Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church with Pastor Nehemiah Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, March 15 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary, who has charge of arrangements. The body will lie in repose from 11 a.m. -.12 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Blackburn was born January 30, 1941 in Pope to the late Joseph S. and Claudia Orr Blackburn. He was retired from MDOT and a member of Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Blackburn of Pope; two daughters Mary Marshall of Pope and Bobbie Jean Lloyd of Springs, Texas; one brother, J. J. Blackburn of Batesville; two sisters Rosie Blackburn and Josephine Caldwell, both of Chicago; and two grandchildren.

Jimmy Potts

BATESVILLE–Jimmy Potts, 82, died March 10, 2014 at Sardis Community Nursing Home.

Graveside services were held March 11 at Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Hal Johnson officiated.

Mr. Potts was born May 20, 1931 to the late Jimmy Avant and Bertha Johnson Potts.

He worked as a truck driver and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He was the widower of Joan G. Potts and Rosemary Bracato Potts.

Survivors include his daughter Theresa Massie of Sardis; son Steve Potts of Carthage; sisters Quay Neal of Germantown, Tenn., and Ree Marsh of Millington, Tenn.; one brother, Van Potts of Batesville and three grandchildren.

William Clarence Turner

OAKLAND–William Clarence Turner, 43, died March 5, 2014 at his residence in Oakland. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 15, at the Batesville Junior High School auditorium at 2 p.m. Keith Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the Parrish Grove Church Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Mr. Turner was born November 17, 1970 to Thomas Turner Jr. and Nancy Mae Eggleston Turner in Charleston.

Survivors include his brothers Sherman Turner, Tommy Turner, Bobby Eggleston, all of Batesville and Kenny Turner of Oakland; sisters Mary Turner Brooks and Margaret Johnson, both of Courtland; Lillie Eggleston and Betty Bradford Suggs of Batesville; Pennie Williams of Jacksonville, Fla., and Annette Pope of Detroit.
