Woman fined after illicit pizza purchase

A former student from Finch-Henry Job Corps Center was granted a bond reduction on his felony charges of aggravated domestic violence during Batesville Municipal Court held Wednesday.

Devin Jones, 107-E Railroad, Byhalia, was dismissed from FHJCC after his arrest. He was appointed attorney David Walker last week during court by Judge Bill McKenzie. Jones had faced a second charge of sexual battery, but city prosecuting attorney Bob Morris asked that that charge be withdrawn.

“We met with the detective and based on new evidence we have agreed to dismiss the sexual battery charge,” Morris said.

Jones’ bond was reduced from $50,000 to $25,000 and he was referred to the grand jury for the aggravated domestic violence charge.

There was an agreement he have no contact with the victim.

In other cases, Stacy M. Fox, 107 MLK #4-East, Batesville, was charged with misdemeanor false pretenses in connection with her use of someone else’s credit card number to order a pizza.

 Court documents showed she used a Louisiana resident’s credit card information to order a pizza from Domino’s Pizza.

“How did you know her credit card number?” asked McKenzie.
“I just knew it,” she replied.

“You just knew it? Do you know mine?” the judge replied.

Fox admitted she saw the credit card number on a piece of paper while she was working at Days Inn.

“So you bought a pizza with someone else’s credit card?” he asked.
Fox admitted that she did.

She was fined $335 plus restitution of $20.31 to the card holder.

 Fox also had old fines of $2,000 that have been due since June 2008.

“What about these old fines?” asked McKenzie.

“I will pay them when I get my income taxes next week,” Fox replied.

“Well, you have had five taxes come in since it was due,” the judge replied.

Fox told the judge she had a job and would have the fines paid immediately.

“If you do not have every bit of these fines paid by March 14 you will serve six months in jail,” McKenzie warned.

Natalie Whitworth, 3321 Tocowa Rd., Courtland, had a trial set for April 23 for DUI and expired tag. She will be represented by attorney Helen Kelly.

David J. Mathews, 217 Broad St., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to open container and driving while license suspended (implied consent).

“What is your license suspended for?” McKenzie asked Mathews.

“For a DUI in November,” Mathews answered.

“Do you know when you drive while your license is suspended for a DUI your license gets an additional six months suspension added to it?” McKenzie asked.

Mathews had a no proof of insurance charge dismissed after he proved he had insurance when the incident occurred.

“My insurance card was in my truck but we couldn’t find it because we had a wreck,” Mathews said.

“You need to bite the bullet and change your behavior,” McKenzie said.

Mathews was fined $968 along with his license being suspended an additional six months.
Excell Jackson, 8221 Curtis Locke Station, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to public drunk and was given time served for the four days he spent in jail awaiting court.

Ricky L. Henderson, 125 Jackson St., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to public drunk. He was given time served for the five days he spent in jail awaiting court.

James E. Armstead, 350 Greenbriar, Courtland, entered the city’s work program for 15 days in lieu of paying $842 for disorderly conduct-failure to comply and public drunk.

William E. Langston, 116 Cole Dr., Batesville, was fined $402 for domestic violence-simple assault.

“I didn’t hit her (Sandy Langston). I will just pay the fine,” Langston told the judge.
Sandy K. Langston, 116 Cole Dr., Batesville, was fined $402 for disorderly conduct-failure to comply.

Valisia Watson, 216 1/2 West St., Batesville, paid a cash fine of $632 prior to court for false reporting of a crime.

During a case set for trial, defendant Tad R. Little, 301 Jennings St., Sumner, failed to appear and was found guilty in his absence after testimony from Officer Kerry Pittman.

Pittman testified he clocked Little driving  90 mph in a 35 mph zone so he made sure his speedometer was working correctly and clocked him again and it read he was going 92 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Little was found guilty in his absence of speeding and reckless driving. He was fined $458.
A warrant was issued for Jeremy Mayer, 149 Henry Heafner Rd., Batesville, after he failed to appear to answer charges for shoplifting and old fines of $1,560.63 that have been due since February 2012.
