BATESVILLE– Percy Leo Armstrong, 58, died Friday, November 8, 2013, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services will be held Thursday, November 14 at 11 a.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Pastor Coya Blackburn will officiate. Burial will be in New Hope M.B. Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary who has charge.
Armstrong, born Nov. 30, 1954, in Batesville, to Pete Armstrong and Hettie Henderson Armstrong, attended South Panola High School an was a tool setter employed with Parker Hannifan. He was a member of New Hope M.B. Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Annette Armstrong of Batesville; two sons, Percy Armstrong III of Sardis and Dustin Armstrong of Batesville; one daughter, Stephanie Armstrong of Batesville; one brother, Carl Armstrong of Memphis; four sisters, Annie Margaret Wright, Mattie Armstrong and Lula Houston, all of Batesville and Katherine Henderson of Memphis and six grandchildren.
SARAH– Frances Lee West Bolding, 77, died Monday, November 4, 2013, at North Oak Regional Medical Center in Senatobia.
Services were held Thursday at Crenshaw Baptist Church. Burial was in Peach Creek Cemetery in Sardis. Pate Jones Funeral Home had charge.
Bolding was a member of Crenshaw Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Henry Howard West and Warren Glen Bolding.
Survivors include: daughters, Debbie Smitherman and Betty Tillman; sons, Travis West and James West of Sarah; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Crenshaw Baptist Church.
SARDIS — William Thomas “Billy” Evans, 79, died Friday, November 8, 2013 at North Oak Regional Medical Center in Senatobia.
Graveside services were Sunday in Rosehill Cemetery in Sardis. Hal Johnson officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Mr. Evans was born to Willie Ray Evans, Sr. and Lela Massie Evans on October 6, 1934 in Water Valley. He was a member of Como Baptist Church.
For over 40 years he was the owner of Evans Sand and Gravel Company in Sardis.
He served in the Mississippi Army National Guard. His hobbies included hunting quail and playing golf.
Survivors include: his wife, Georgia Fennell Evans of Como; three daughters: Lynn Evans Rice (Joel) of Batesville, Pam Evans West (Nolan) of Sardis, and Carol Evans Short (Rob) of Wichita, Kan.; one son, Mike Evans (Natalie) of Batesville; his sister, Betty Evans Gurner of Water Valley; one brother, James Henry “Jim” Evans also of Water Valley; eight grandchildren: Jason and Will Evans, Hunter and Evan West, William Forrest Short, Lindsey Rice Petit and Alex Rice Hallmark, along with two great-grandchildren: Lexi Evans and Georgia Petit.
Memorials may be sent to North Delta Schools, 330 Greenwave Lane, Batesville, MS 38606 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
SARDIS– William Lantern Jr., 80, died Friday, November 8, 2013, at his residence.
Services will be held Saturday, November 16, at St. Peter M. B. Church. Rev. Odell Draper Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.
Lantern, born April 17, 1933, to the late Willliam Lantern Sr. and Ollie Mae Lantern, worked for the Corps of Engineers at Sardis Dam. He was a member of St. Peter M. B. Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Lucille Lantern of Sardis; two sons, Terry Lantern of Sardis and Marcus Black of Como; seven daughters, Georgia Hightower and Della Hightower, both of Memphis, Dorothy Arnold, Linda Presley, Sharon Edwards and Monica Rudd, all of Sardis and Darcus Black of Como; 26 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
