Howard Eugene Clayton

SENATOBIA– Howard Eugene “Gene” Clayton, 66, former employee of Springs Industries in Sardis, died Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Senatobia Convalescent Center.

Services will be held today at noon at Solid Rock Assembly of God Church in Senatobia. Burial will be in Greenleaf Community Center. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home has charge.
Clayton, born December 12, 1946 to Earl Clayton and Evie Pryor Clayton, was a member of Solid Rock Assembly of God Church in Senatobia. He also belonged to the Fox Den Hunting Club.

Survivors include: two daughters, Loretta Harrell and Lisa Barnett; one step-daughter, Megan Palmertree, all of Senatobia; one step-son, Matthew Palmertree of Olive Branch; two brothers, Ewell Ray Clayton of Bett Community and Leon Sowell of Pontotoc; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and  three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be sent to Solid Rock Assembly Building Fund, 16938 Hwy 4 E., Senatobia, Miss. 38668.  Ray-Nowell Funheral Home has charge of arrangements.

Barry Lee Elliott Sr.

POPE– Barry Lee Elliott, Sr. 56, died Saturday, September 21, 2013, at his residence.

Elliott, born in New Orleans, March 4, 1957 to Burton C. Elliott Sr. of Wagaman, La. and the late Gay Coker Elliott, served in the Marine Corps and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of Loyal Order Moose Lodge in Harvey, La. and was an industrial painter for Dixie Painting.

Survivors include: his wife, Lula Renee Ragon Elliott; one daughter, Danielle Elliott; four sons, Tony Cecerre, Jr., Steven Cecerre, Barry Elliott, Jr., and Adam Berryhill, all of Pope; his father, Burton C. Elliott Sr. of Wagaman, La.; his step-father, Bobby Minjarez of Gretna, La; two sisters, Cathy Matthews of West Wego, La. and Amanda Minjarez of Beaumont, Texas; two brothers, Kim C. Elliott, Sr. and Kevin Reyer, both of Marrero, La; and eight grandchildren.

David Earl Little

BATESVILLE– David Earl Little, 57, died Saturday, September 14, 2013 in Coahoma County.
Services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at Crowder Baptist Church. Rev. Lucian Young officiated. Burial was in Crowder Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Little born in Lambert, June 2, 1956 to the Late Samuel Earl Little and Joie Greer Little, attended Crowder Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Nita Marie Swindoll Little of Batesville; two daughters, Amy Kirkland of Leland,  and Amanda McMillan of Batesville; four sons, Steven Little of Pontotoc,  David Glen Little of Batesville, Samuel David Earl Little of Mims, Fla. and Clint French of Greenville; six sisters, Marjorie Ann Taylor of Highland, Texas, Charlotte Joan Banks of Coldwater, Emma Faye McIntyre of Southaven, Patricia Warren of Newport, N.C., Glenda Kennedy of Batesville and Brenda Crocker of Oakland; two brothers, John Everette Little of Austin, Ark. and John Kennedy Jr. of Pope and 13 grandchildren.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Crowder Baptist Church, 300 Perkins Rd., Crowder, MS 38622.

Teresa Roberson

SARDIS– Teresa Roberson, 30, died Thursday, September 19, 2013, at her residence.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Morris Chapel M.B. Church. Burial will be in Old Dunigan Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home  has charge.

Roberson, born Feb. 23, 1983, in Sardis, to Emma Roberson of Sardis and the late Lugene Roberson, was a member of Morris Chapel M.B. Church.

Survivors along with her mother include: one son, Montrell Roberson; one sister, Irma Irby and three brothers, Dexter Roberson, Darrell Roberson and Chris Roberson, all of Sardis.

Gennie Poole Smith

BATESVILLE– Gennie Poole Smith, 54, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Baptist Desoto Hospital.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Bethlehem M.B. Church in Batesville. Pastor Jeffery K. McMullen will officiate. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Smith, born Jan. 2, 1959, to the late Robert Lee Poole Sr. and the late Virginia Strong Poole, was a member of New Bethlehem M.B. Church.

Survivors include: one son, Arthur Poole of Batesville; two daughters, Lavasha Smith of Jackson, Tenn. and Tamika Poole of Batesville; six brothers, Clyde Poole, Larry Poole, Solomon Poole and Prince Poole, all of Batesville, Robert Poole Jr. of Sardis and Rev. Jessie Poole of Memphis; seven sisters, Ella Poole, Lillie Henderson, Patricia Fletcher and Anna Poole, of Batesville, Earmera Thompson of Oxford, Yvette Poole of Oakland and Jacqueline Henderson of Memphis and four grandchildren.

Ira Young

SARDIS– Ira Young, 81, died Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Golden Living Nursing Home.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Miles Chapel C.M.E. Church. Rev. Johnny McDonald will officiate.

Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.

Young, born April 19, 1932, in Sardis, to the late James Young and Ruby Young, was retired from the Army and was a member of Miles Chapel C.M.E. Church.

Survivors include: four sons, Shawn Wilson of Memphis, Milton Young, Terry Young and Jerry Young, all of Sardis and one daughter, Iris Young of Sardis.
