Aldermen seek grant to improve city park

By John Howell

Batesville aldermen will seek a Small Municipalities Grant (SMG) to replace the restrooms and concession stand at Trussell Park.

City engineer Blake Mendrop told the mayor and aldermen at their June 4 meeting that the grant deadline is at the end of June. The inadequacy of the present facility has been an occasional topic of discussion among city officials for at least two years. The grant will provide $150,000 with a 10 percent minimum match by the city.

“The plans and the cost estimates are already done,” Mendrop said.

Aldermen opted to apply for the SMG funds to replace the restrooms and concession stand because the plans have already been drawn and could be presented.
