Panola Playhouse, Mississippi’s second longest continuously running little theatre, opens its holiday show tonight with Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas.” The play runs weekends at the theater on Main Street in Sardis though December 22.
This family-friendly production is rated G (suitable for children ages 5 and up) and is filled with beautiful music and energetic dancing and a holiday message of friendship, loyalty and love.
Based on the popular movie of the same title, “White Christmas” “showcases the spirit of Christmas as seen through the deep military friendships developed during the Second World War- friendships forged during adversity that can lie dormant for years yet be instantly resurrected by the sheer force of the devotion and sacrifice that made them in the first place.
Spokesman Rogers Smith said Panola Playhouse has dedicated White Christmas to all those veterans who so defended our freedoms in World War II and to those who defend our country today both here and abroad.
Anyone with a military ID may get one ticket for half price.
“Please join us as we go back nearly sixty years to inhabit the innocence of a simpler time,” Smith said. “It is 1954 and the good guys will win, love will prevail and snow will fall when it is supposed to. You’ll be smiling when you leave- we guarantee it!”
