ND topples Marshall 35-27


Austin Hagstrom and Tyler Pirtle scored two touchdowns each while Taylor Morris added another to lead North Delta to a huge 35-27 District 1-AA victory over No. 4 ranked Marshall Friday night in Holly Springs.

North Delta improved to 5-2 and 2-0 in district play while Marshall also fell to 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in district.

  Hagstrom, who rushed for 116 yards on 13 carries, gave the Green Wave a 6-0 lead by racing 86 yards for a touchdown on the third play from scrimmage. After Marshall scored on its first possession to take a 7-6 lead, North Delta increased its advantage to 20-7 at the end of the first quarter on a pair of three-yard scoring runs by Hagstrom and Morris.

Marshall closed the margin to 20-14 at halftime as Zach Pritchett plowed in from one-yard out with 5:48 remaining in the half. Pritchett added his second touchdown on 10-yard run to give the Patriots a 21-20 lead midway through the third quarter.

North Delta retook the lead at 28-21 with 10:00 remaining in the game as Pirtle, who had missed the last three games with various injuries, scored from eight yards out followed by Hagstrom’s two-point conversion.

After the Patriots added their last touchdown to make the score 28-27, Pirtle iced the contest with a 27-yard run while William Dean booted the PAT. Pirtle rushed 20 times for 91 yards and 81 yards in the air on eight-of-10 passing. Morris contributed nine carries for 58 yards.

The Green Wave registered 348 yards of total offense with 267 of that coming on the ground. Sophomore quarter Dakota Dailey accounted for 246 all-purpose yards for Marshall with 141 yards rushing and 105 yards through the air.

North Delta stays on the road next week by traveling to Lee, Ark. for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
