Judge Jay Westfaul strongly urged a defendant to seek a remedy in Chancery Court for ongoing domestic problems that had led to a case in Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday.
Justin D. Market, 3408-B Eureka, Batesville, was found guilty of domestic violence and simple assault with a suspended fine of $1,034 after several testimonies were given.
Market and the mother of his child, Arcandise Turner, were involved in an altercation over their child on July 20, according to testimony in court. Market had been in court August 29 and was told he was under a “no contact order.”
Market had obeyed the order as of Wednesday.
“My concern is future domestic violence,” the judge said. “This has been going on since July and you still haven’t been to Chancery Court. Y’all are fighting over a baby. I am not a chancery court judge,” the judge said in ruling.
“A Chancery Court judge will solve most of these problems,” said Westfaul.
