Two Batesville softball teams play for championships at JP Hudson

Four softball age groups competed in the 2012 Dizzy Dean Bash held at JP Hudson Park June 22-24 with an estimated 2,500 people at the park over the weekend.

The 6 and under Batesville Bullets lost their first game Friday night 15-14 to the Senatobia All- Stars. On Saturday Batesville came back and defeated the Hernando All-Stars 10-7 with help from a homerun by Caylee Sensabaugh. In pool play Batesville lost to Southaven 20-13.

Batesville Blitz 8u

The 8 and under Batesville Blitz tied its first game at 17 on Friday night with the Senatobia All-Stars. On Saturday morning Batesville defeated the Clarksdale Delta Thunder All-Stars 15-11. In their last game on Saturday Batesville downed the Calhoun Riptide All-Stars 20-9, advancing them to play on Sunday.

As the No. 1 pool seed “A” team, Batesville defeated the No. 2 seed pool “B” (Southaven) 15-11 to advance to the championship game against the Pontotoc Power all stars. The Pontotoc Power won the championship game over the Batesville Blitz.

Batesville Bling 12u

The 12 and under Batesville Bling won its first game Friday night 5-2 over the Southaven Choas. On Saturday the Grenada Pink Sox shut out the Batesville Bling, 11-0.
Going into seed play as the No. 5 placed team, the Batesville Bling took on the No. 4 seed Pontotoc Smashers. The Smashers came out on top 12-5 sending the Batesville Bling home.

Ponytail Express 10u

In 10 and under action,  Batesville Ponytail Express placed second after getting beat by the Southaven All-Stars 11-8 on Saturday in a game that lasted almost three hours. In the first game of the tournament on Friday, Southaven defeated Batesville 7-4. In game two on Friday Batesville beat the North Mississippi All-Stars from Hernando 8-4.

For the first game on Saturday Southaven downed the North Mississippi All-Stars giving them a one-game lead over Batesville. In the second game of the day, Batesville, the number two seed team, took on the number three seed team North Mississippi All-Stars winning 8-7 to advance to the championship game against Southaven.

Southaven entered the championship game as the number one seed team.  

It was a back and forth battle between Batesville and Southaven as the game was tied several times but the Batesville All-Stars never gave up.

Going into the fifth inning Southaven led 8-6. They scored three runs, putting them up 11-6, but Batesville came back fighting hard scoring three runs but still fell short of the championship.
